Sound problem? here is the fix! by Patchou on 04-28-2003 at 10:30 PM

With a title like that, I was sure you would click :).

Want to know what I did today? I got up, read some posts on the forum, realized that there were too many sound problems so I recoded my mp3 support from scratch.. this message is for anyone who has problems with the sound commands, either with an old of the new version. I just finished a test version that you can download at  http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MP2032-dbg.zip. This version is not intended to be redistributed, I just want that a maximum number of people on this forum try it and post a reply to this thread saying if their sounds work now. Even if your sounds are currently working with version 2.10, I want you to try this update to avoid bad surprizes (fixing one problem, creating another).

If this update is a success, I'll distribute an official update tomorrow or the day after. You all seem to enjoy the Sound Commands pretty much and I'll do my maximum to support them. Note for those who know what I'm talking about: this new version doesn't use MCI anymore but DirectX.

Waiting for your new...
Patchou

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by sock on 04-28-2003 at 11:00 PM

Yep, they work with this version here too.... :) (Y)

They worked before too, but only since version 2.02 I think (after we played with the Registry a bit). :P

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by rh on 04-28-2003 at 11:05 PM

they did not work, and they don't work now :(

or, to be exact: i get to hear something, but it sounds VERY strange

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by s7a5 on 04-29-2003 at 01:34 AM

make sure that Wave or SW Synt volume is up on your sound controller or not muted. (not sure, but could help for some i hope)

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by Freaky on 04-29-2003 at 07:42 AM

they worked with the 2.0, they didn't work with the 2.1 nor with the new test version.

I've tried: installing windows media player, installing nimo, unistalling nimo, rebooting

problem: the sound just plays to fast.

btw: congrats to patchou, a free GREAT product with such a support ain't seen that before!

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by riball on 04-29-2003 at 07:53 AM

and im enjoying the new sounds now... havent tried the fix but gonna download it now...

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by Monarch on 04-29-2003 at 09:36 PM

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by Patchou on 04-29-2003 at 09:43 PM

I've worked on an alternate sollution, again... please, everyone download the latest debug version at http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MP2032-dbg-new.zip and tell me if the sounds are fixed or, at least, if they are still working for you. Note that this version also fixed the bug that allowed people to use sounds in their name (and the sounds have better quality).

I'm waiting for your answers!

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by acer_m1 on 04-29-2003 at 10:14 PM

The sound was really messed up for me before. I had the garbled weird sounds when I tried to do all the new ones and on the old set the Brb one was like that.

After I downloaded the debug version I could kinda hear what they say now,  Like /sbrb only says "I'll b. .. ." and they only work sometimes. . when I tested them all every one worked except /sbye.
Now /sevil wont work, yet /sboring does.
How do I fix this?

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by Patchou on 04-29-2003 at 10:25 PM

Note that you can send only one sound every 5 seconds. Please wait between your tries. Could you list all the sounds that work perfectly, all the sounds that are working a little and all the soudns that are not working at all?

Thank you!
Patchou

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by popeye on 04-29-2003 at 10:28 PM

I am afraid to say that I have the same problem. The sounds are better, but some of them cut off early eg. /sbrb & /sboring

At least some of them work now, rather than sounding like the chipmunks are saying them!

-------------------

After reading Patchou's message...

Work...

/sbye (seems to work ok, but never heard the full thing)
/skiss (from what I can make out)

Cut off early...

/sbrb (after about 1 sec)
/shello (just cuts off the end)
/sdoh
/sboring (after ~1 sec if not less)
/smad (after ~1 sec if not less)
/somg (after 'my' of OMG)

Can't tell...

/sevillaugh
/sevil

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by Vhailor on 04-29-2003 at 10:34 PM

/sevil

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by rick2079 on 04-29-2003 at 10:42 PM

the exact same thing happend to me ACER_m1
now at least i can hear something right...not the garbled sounds.

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by sock on 04-29-2003 at 11:06 PM

I have attached the 10 sounds as separate MP3 files so you could compare them to what you actually hear.

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by Scytale on 04-29-2003 at 11:30 PM

The same as Vhailor...

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by acer_m1 on 04-29-2003 at 11:33 PM

Thanks sock! Thats very helpful. Oh and I know why some werent working. Its because I had an extra line in there. Like I'd type /sbye then shift enter by accident and it makes a blank line, then when its sent it doesnt say anything just displays "/sbye"

/shello - It says "hidey h..[cutsoff]"
/sbye - Yah, I'm not posting the whole thing. lol it gets cut off after Chow.
/sbrb - It says "I'll" then cuts off when he begins to pronouce the b in .. be right back.
/sdoh - It only says 3 "dohs" then cuts off
/sboring - Starts to pronouce the B in boring.
/smad - all I hear is "ar" in are you mad.
/somg - He says "Oh My..[cutoff]"
/skiss - wow this one is alot different when I heard the real way. I dont even know how to explain what I hear. a really quick "Mmst" (kinda kissing sound)
/sevillaugh - this one almost finishes all the way. soooo close.
/sevil - this one almost finishes too.

and its not from sending them too quick either..
hope that helps a bit.

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by Patchou on 04-29-2003 at 11:37 PM

Thank you for these information... I've done another update to test one of the reasons I see that could explain your problem. Please download the new version at http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MP2032-dbg-new2.zip.

Waiting for your news,
Patchou

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by acer_m1 on 04-29-2003 at 11:55 PM

No change after MP2032-dbg-new2.zip

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by sock on 04-30-2003 at 12:04 AM

Still working perfectly for me..... :)

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by Guido on 04-30-2003 at 12:56 AM

Patch: is -dbg.zip the same as -dbg-new.zip and -dbg-new2.zip in your server?

If not, edit your posts so that users that download the test version in the first post get the last one directly.

RE: Sound problem? here is the fix! by boback on 04-30-2003 at 03:27 AM

Great Patchou, sounds now work after you last fix.
BUT

Now some of the sounds get cut off before they are finished :(
