can't add new friends on msn by -[kwofessional]- on 03-13-2010 at 05:38 AM

Hi first time :D

Recently i have been experiencing a few problems with my messenger. :(

When i add new contacts is says--
"You're done!...This Windows Live Service isn't available right now, but we'll add xxx@hotmail.com to your contacts as soon as the service is available again."

IT NEVER DOES, even when i know that they are on.

It seems that i can't add new contacts and i can't recieve new requests.
But when i logged on msn with another computer, i got the requests and i saw my new contacts online.
Then i logged back on msn on my normal comp and they're not there D:

This is really annoying :s

Someone please help!!!!!!!!!

Same here!

Whenever I tried to add a new contact, either that Error which the Thread Start has stated or it would say "We couldn't add <email> because your Contact list is full. Please remove some of your contacts from the list and try again..." Help please....I only have about 140+ contacts in my list! =S

I will be back on 14/3 to look for the solution/answer. Thanks a million!

Can anyone give us a prompt reply? ):....
It's very urgent...please...thanks!

It sounds like a server side issue (perhaps related to the ongoing issues with the reverse list) as many people are now suddenly reporting the same thing.  All I can suggest is leaving it a few days and seeing if it sorts itself out

If you want the problem to be know to the right people (Microsoft), you could better report it via Live Support.

This is a non-affiliated 3rd party forum. So unfortunatly, we can't help you with stuff like this and we don't have the ability to do something about it...

The only people who can do something about it are Microsoft, but for that they need to be aware of the problem.

At the official forums there a lot of threads about it. eg:
http://windowslivehelp.com/thread.aspx?postid=f2a...-a704-ad4531a3773c

Try to post in one of those ;)

Sorry to confuse you and that you had to see those old links. I removed those links because apparently the official forums are active now (see my edited post above again). They replace what used to be the FAQ (its all part of the transition to the new wave 4/next version of things).

Wondering if you could help me then Because this is a help forum for 3rd partys

The limit of the number of contacts uou can have in Windows Live Messenger
Was this helpful?

    * Yes

    * No

14 of 111 people found this solution helpful.

Below are the maximum numbers of contacts that your Windows Live Messenger account can accommodate:

    * Messenger Contacts –You can have at most 1500 contacts.
    * Hotmail and Messenger Contacts – The sum of all your contacts in both Windows Live Messenger and Hotmail. Your account can accommodate a maximum of 1250 contacts.
    * Allowed Contacts – Contacts that can view your online status, and send you instant messages (IM). You can have up to 1500 allowed contacts.
    * Blocked Contacts or Blocked users – Contacts that do not have the permission to view your online status nor send you instant messages. A user can block up to 1200 contacts or users.
    * Reversed contacts – The contacts that added you to their contacts list. Your name appears on those contacts’ contact list. You can have at most 1200 reversed contacts.
    * Pending contacts – Contacts who are interested to be in your contacts list and to view your online status but you have not yet approved or accepted. You can have at most 40 pending contacts.
    * Group – Customer defined groups. The default groups are Online, Offline, and Mobile. You can include up to 100 contacts in a group.

Note: Even though the Allow, Block, Pending, Reverse lists and Hotmail address-book have their own limit as stated above, only 1000 can be viewable in Windows Live Messenger under the "Privacy" tab. 1000 contacts include Allow, Block, Pending, Reverse and Hotmail address-book

*** If you intend to add contacts but you already reached the limit of the number of contacts that you can add, you will receive an error saying;

Sorry, contact display name could not be added. Your contact list is full. Please delete a contact from your list and then try again.

Thats the problem me and others have got but it never EVER came up before And i know numerous amounts of people on msn that have only had this problem the last week... Is it a server problem? Is there any information you could give me Any would be helpfull, Thank you.

"3rd party" means something not-affiliated with the official stuff.

"3rd party" does not mean "the general public".

eg: Messenger Plus! is not a program from Microsoft, it is made by a "3rd party" (3rd party compared to MS). As such, there are no officials/employees/people who have access to and/or the ability to fix Microsoft related bugs on these forums. We are just common people giving some general support. We can't fix anything, we can just say click this or that, or do this and go to that website ;)

---

So, for support regarding this issue, see the link I posted above to report the problem. There are official Windows Live people (you recognize them by having "Windows Live" as the first part of their nick name) on those forums who can help you further.

eg: Make a post in this thread:
http://windowslivehelp.com/thread.aspx?postid=f2a...-a704-ad4531a3773c
and also mention the email address you have troubles with.

ps: Don't worry about privacy, your email address will automatically be blanked out for the general public; only the official support people will be able to see it.

And yep, these problems have been happening a lot lately though.
