Unsolicited invites by MontrealPaul on 04-03-2010 at 01:56 AM

For a while, now (a month, maybe more?) I get regular invites from obviously bogus names (they are atypical, and have numbers). I sometimes get two or three at a time. I ALWAYS report spam/phishing, but still they come...

What's up? Anyone else experiencing a higher than before level of unsolicited invites?

Just say no to bogus Messenger invitations ;)

Um, duh....
I do say no to bogus Messenger invitations - and flag them as bogus, fwiw - several times a week.

These have gotten more frequent lately, and I'm getting tired of it.
I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same.

Yes. At least here in Portugal it's becoming frequent. Those Arificial Inteligence robots are really annoyng. However, considering the technology used, we can say it's a big step in evolution and it will probably create a mass spreading of virus in a nearby future.

I myself have been getting about 5 per week over the past month or so, and less frequently prior to this. As the article liked to ablove says, block and report the invitations.

Mm, I have noticed an increasing trend of this recently.  I'm just blocking them when they come in.....I'm gonna start reporting as spammers too

Same here, also about 5 a week :@

They're usually NAME2424@....

Like an odd name and random numbers @ hotmail .com

So it isn't just me.. Was wondering why this happened, if i had left my email somewhere online that some bot could find.. i guess i didn't :)

i get spammed A LOT.. many a week..

Has Microsoft got hacked or something? How can these so called bots spam us this much?

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback. That includes you, Sunshine, and my apologies for being so short. I was in a rush to go out of town, and found it frustrating that the only answer I got (to that point) was saying to do what I was already doing.

It's cold comfort, yet still comfort, to know that it's not "just me". Something's definitely going on. It's also good to know that MS is doing "something" about it (as stated in that article Sunshine linked to).

FWIW, I have done nothing different recently, and have NEVER accepted any of those bogus invitations, and have ALWAYS reported them (I'm in the field of Information Security).

Actually, I'm afraid to say, even though I've been with MSN/Live/Hotmail since inception, I don't use Messenger much anymore, and use something else for my email (Hotmail feeds into it). I mainly use my account for signing into MS services like TechNet and the like.

I just got another 5 when I signed in this morning :/
