Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Patchou on 04-29-2003 at 09:45 PM

Hello,

I've worked on an alternate sollution to fix the problems some people have in Sound Commands (again, yes)... please, everyone download the latest debug version of Messenger Plus! at http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MPTest.zip.zip and tell me if the sounds are fixed or, at least, if they are still working for you. Note that this version also fixed the bug that allowed people to use sounds in their name (and the sounds have better quality).

I'm waiting for your answers! I'd like to release a good patch before next friday.
Patchou

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by sock on 04-29-2003 at 09:59 PM

Still works fine here.... and the quality is better! :D (Y)

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by [HOT]Steve on 04-29-2003 at 11:26 PM

hi Patchou

I had the sound problem too, this has fixed the sound but only a couple of faults with a few the following sounds end too early.

/shello just says "howdy
/sbrb just says "i
/sboring is just a short "beep
/smad is "ar
/somg is " oh my

The rest works fine for me a nice fix just needs these checking

thank you

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by XsTatiC on 04-30-2003 at 12:40 AM

Most work, some are cut off early though.

Are you mad,  You're boring, and Oh My God do not play the full sounds.

Win 2003 Standard
Athlon 700
sound driver: ac97via.sys Tuesday, April 08, 2003
DirectX 9.0a

RE: RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by [HOT]Steve on 04-30-2003 at 01:50 AM

hi Patchou

The follow sounds are still cut short this is what they say:

/shello just says "howdy
/sbrb just says "i
/sboring is just a short "beep
/smad is "ar
/somg is " oh my

They just end too early, but the sound is clear and fine now.

Thank you

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by puncket on 04-30-2003 at 02:10 AM

This fix is great finally i hear the sounds clear (not underwater-wacky sounds)

But:
The follow sounds are still cut short this is what they say:

/shello just says "howdy
/sbrb just says "i
/sboring is just a short "beep
/smad is "ar
/somg is " oh my

Thanx [Hot]Steve;)

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Monarch on 04-30-2003 at 03:00 AM

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by DawsonsFreak on 04-30-2003 at 04:52 AM

hey Patchou

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Patchou on 04-30-2003 at 05:01 AM

thanks for the news.. I'll look into it and post another update... I'm starting to run out of idea.... :S

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Patchou on 04-30-2003 at 05:32 AM

Here you go, another test... if this one doesnt work for you, well, reinstall Windows :p.

Seriously, please, let me know... this time, all mp3 are high quality and are really supposed to be played by every codec perfectly. If this one works, I'll have to do some other tests with you to find the correct compression for everything.

http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MPTest.zip

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by sock on 04-30-2003 at 05:50 AM

Again, here are the original sound files so you could compare them with what you hear: http://shoutbox.menthix.net/attachment.php?tid=9391&pid=69806
(Sounds.zip, 120 KB)

DawsonsFreak, if you don't have the "Send Command -> Sounds" menu then you have an old version of Messenger Plus!. This is a very common problem, you have to download Plus! again, try a different mirror: http://sock.demon.co.il/mp2

Edit: Oh and yes, all the sounds still work fine with this version. :)

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by vvchoi on 04-30-2003 at 06:01 AM

it's OKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK~~~

thanks!  but you can't see how I  gladness under my surgical mask.

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Freaky on 04-30-2003 at 06:05 AM

it's working now \0/ thx patchou!

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by SDKyron on 04-30-2003 at 08:33 AM

Works fine now, plz release an official version fast so i can put it in my ghost, thx PATCHOU OWNZ

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by The kid® on 04-30-2003 at 08:42 AM

It's still better; Not "hashed" again

Good job Pat.

Cordial ;-) (y)

[MAJ] : a little pb: some sounds are "incompletes"
ex: for "i be back", i hear "i be ba" !  :-s

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Tandy on 04-30-2003 at 09:14 AM

yeah ok do these versions make you able to use sounds in your nickname

because i used dane's soundnames and when i put it in my name and sent a message i got an error with MSN and it was only when i attatched a sound

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Mippo on 04-30-2003 at 09:31 AM

They work now... Well, they cut off on the end.. Isn't it a sound buffer mistake or something? It's always JUST before the end with me... I also had the "cut-off"-problem with the older version, when there were only 5 sounds... At least I have the Sounds Pack where I can enjoy them fully :P.

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by d_lindsay on 04-30-2003 at 10:25 AM

Where do u extract these sounds to?

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by [HOT]Steve on 04-30-2003 at 01:37 PM

Thanks Patchou this fix has done it good work thanks again.

I find that some end a little short on the last word
like

/sbrb         finishes a before he completes the word back
/sbye         finishes a little quick on the last word
/sboring     finishes before he gets the g out
/somg        finishes before saying the rest of  god
/smad        finishes a before he completes the word mad

But these are only just.
The latest fix is the best.

Thanks patchou

Plus if anyone else gets this let me know thanks

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by RuuddieBoy on 04-30-2003 at 02:49 PM

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by The kid® on 04-30-2003 at 05:21 PM

Exactly! (y)

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by popeye on 04-30-2003 at 05:39 PM

Same for me too. They get cut off just at the end. Would be great if you could fix it?

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by user17033 on 04-30-2003 at 06:08 PM

it's the same here - the sound stops before the sentences is spoken (hope this was understandable, excuse my english :$)

i tested it under 3 computers (2x windows xp pro german, soundblaster live! 5.1 and 1x windows xp pro german, ac97 chipset onboard [notebook])

before you're last soundfix it was not possible to hear these sounds at my notebook (i didn't try the "1st" final of msgplus! 2 at my desktop pcs)

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by HiTmAN [3v1l L33t] on 04-30-2003 at 06:13 PM

edit: i did a reinstall of it and now the sounds work. sounds only work in the Sound Test Build, not in the public release . and also there is cutoff on most of the sounds

running Windows Messenger 4.7 on Windows XP

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Scytale on 04-30-2003 at 07:37 PM

it doesn't work....

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by tries on 04-30-2003 at 08:10 PM

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by acer_m1 on 04-30-2003 at 08:34 PM

The sounds are cut off like mentioned before. They arent garbled or anything tho.

I guess I never mentioned this before. I'm using winxp pro. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not...

He guys,
I had a sound program too with the new :plus2:. EVERY sound comment became some strange beeps. But with this new debug version, the problem is solved.

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by d_lindsay on 04-30-2003 at 09:30 PM

Where do u get this 'debug version'?

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Patchou on 04-30-2003 at 10:18 PM

Here is what will hopefully be the latest test... http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MPTest.zip. I've added some blank at the end of each sound so that crappy codecs do not return before the sound is complete. I have no way to test it so, once again, please reply! :).

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Monarch on 04-30-2003 at 11:13 PM

Thank you,
Patchou

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Patchou on 05-01-2003 at 04:30 AM

Here you go, yet another update... I hope this one wont crash for you. If it does, please let me know when. The new update can be downlaod at http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MPTest.zip. If you install it correctly, the about box will say "April 30th". So what I need now is that kind of reply:
"I have April 30th version, sounds are working perfectly (or not), Messenger doesnt crash (or it does)".

Waiting for your news.... again, thank you all for your time,
Patchou

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by UKEG_Brian on 05-01-2003 at 02:34 PM

Hey new to here :)

i would like to thank Patchou for a great free addon (y)

I have the setup.exe saying 1st May

Sounds  work alot better , but i have been finding i dont know why this is (me dim) sometimes when u do a sound for the first time in that one window, the start of the sound dont play, its only a little bit but i have noticed it ;)

perfectionists ;)

i also found if u do too many sounds one after the other (did this when i was testing them all) my msn closed down :( so next time i think ill leave a few secs between each one. Just thought i would include that incase it can be fixed.

o and i luv that /sboring, lol great!!!

ive already got all me m8s onto it and they think its awesome to, but they didnt have sound problems :(

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Allergoeiste on 05-01-2003 at 03:09 PM

With this http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MPTest.zip version my msnplus sound works great

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Wallpaperman on 05-01-2003 at 05:12 PM

I had the problem with an horrific sound, but with this new release, it works perfectly .... for me !
I say "for me" because 3 of my friends reinstall it with your latest debuged version and they have absolutely NO sound ...
One is working on windows XP, the second on 98 and the third on windows2000 .... that's so strange because on the former version ( 2.02 ) the sounds worked ....
So .... what should they do ??
Thanks (it's great) !!

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by M-Head on 05-01-2003 at 06:34 PM

well I got the Beta version and the sounds worked, got the 2.1.0032 and they were demented sounds, got 2.1.32 and they were not there for me, got the Debug and finally.......THEY WORKED!

thank you patchou!

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by rh on 05-01-2003 at 06:41 PM

hmm, i get a 404 when i try to download the new fix...

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Patchou on 05-01-2003 at 06:49 PM

Well, apparently the problems are solved... be sure to post anyg bug concerning the sounds in this thread today if you find any.

If sounds worked in 2.02 but dont work in this latest version, maybe its just because your status is set to "busy" :)

Patchou

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by NoFearWizz on 05-01-2003 at 08:11 PM

It works for me tooo!!!
Please make it an official ;)

thx

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Wallpaperman on 05-01-2003 at 10:03 PM

No ... the status is not busy .... and the sounds doesn't works at all on my friends computers ....
strange ....

Hey Patchou, notice how your 'little extra' of an easter egg has grown into the only thing anyone wanted to know about? :P
Sorry, I can't help you, worked perfectly from the first version :D

By the way can you please do something about the way you open URLs? (http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=9332)  Thanks

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by ksordo on 05-02-2003 at 03:56 PM

Hello.  I'm having the same problem people who have posted on this thread have posted with the sounds being cut off or not being heard.  I tried downloading the patch Patchou suggested, but it states the zip file is corrupted.  Where can I get the patch to see if it solves the problem?

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Swaptor on 05-02-2003 at 10:47 PM

Uhm, it seems i'm not the only one having trouble with the sounds here. :-s
Fact is, that with the earlier versions of MP2, the sounds worked correct, even when Patchou encoded the sounds as 'supermp3' (or anything like that)
Soundtroubles started the moment i installed the final version, and now with the test version i hear instead of the wobbly & deformed sounds absolutely nothing! complete & utter silence :-s

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by jpg050 on 05-03-2003 at 11:25 AM

I had some problems with last betas, which I told Patchou (MP3 Pro and so), but I finally got to solve it making a codec mess. The final betas and the .32 version worked flawlessly, but with .34 every sound gets its first second cut off... "... be back" "... my god" etc.

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Johnnie on 05-03-2003 at 12:09 PM

I tried 34 still no change.

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by cca on 05-03-2003 at 11:50 PM

Hello. I'm new here and I have sound problems too. The only version that worked was the SoundTesting.zip posted in this topic. Unfortunately it has been removed since, and I was stupid enough to deleted when I download the newest 2.10.34 version, only to found out that it doesn't work! Does anyone still have that file?

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by cca on 05-04-2003 at 11:46 AM

Actualy, that file is newer that the one I 'm talking about. And the problem isn't just with the internal MP3 sounds, it can't play even a simple wav I put in "Contact Sounds". Sometimes it even displays a window saying that my soundcard is unable to play that file, something totaly false as it plays file in WMP9 and Winamp. There is something wrong with the way Messenger Plus! is handling audio playback.

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Phat_dj on 05-04-2003 at 03:33 PM

Hey! Patchou i downloaded the latest version of Msg plus and it works fine for me maybe if it doesn't work you should download Windows media player 9

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by Novacaine on 05-05-2003 at 11:19 AM

I tried this link:

http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MPTest.zip.

to get the April 30th version (or may 1st, whichever it was) and the page comes up saying "Page cannot be found".

Anyone know where i can get this latest fix? I had same prob with latest version - scratchy sounds etc. Then Patchous first try at fixing it worked, but the sounds ended too early. This April 30th sounds like its doing the job - but i cant find it!

Thanks for any help....

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by cool_dexie on 05-05-2003 at 05:47 PM

When I try to download your upload, my computer doesn't find the page. Can you email the attachment to me? p_berss@hotmail.com or can you attach it into your message?

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by user13774 on 05-05-2003 at 06:20 PM

Patchou probably deleted the file. Of course he's trying to fix the problem, so in the next version the problem is maybe fixed. (Because u r not the only people who have this problem....;))

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by cool_dexie on 05-05-2003 at 06:24 PM

But many people said the file worked, so why would he delete it?? do you know about when the newest version comes out? I do have the newest now. Do you know a website were I can download the old msn plus? Because I didn't have the problem in that one

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by pepitajuana on 05-05-2003 at 09:22 PM

Hi patchou!

I have the same sound problem.

I tried  to get in the latest pages but I can't It doesn't let me visit http://www.msgplus.net/temp/MPTest.zip  I don't know why

Ah well, I'm running the normal .32 version here without any problems, but I just wanted to check if the debug version would run correctly here...

RE: Sounds - new fix - everyone read! by maxpayne2409 on 05-05-2003 at 11:42 PM

i have downloaded and installed version 2.10.32, that seems to be the only one available to download from the official site coz when it installs in the "about" window it says 2.10.32 and also on the install screen.

anyway since installing that the sounds wont work at all, before i installed 2.10.32 all the sounds worked except for brb which was just a click, and hello which just cut off at the end, now having installed 2.10.32 all the sounds have gone totally garbled and sound like something from star trek:|

i have tried it with windows messenger that comes with xp and also with msn 5 but the problem is still there.

ps - where can i download 2.10.34 or 2.10.35 until the official site link is updated

pps - i tryed adding to this msg an attachment, a sample wav and mp3 of the sound all my sounds make on msn but it wudnt let me so ill describe it, its sort of a gargling sound.

thanks for listening

The latest version (2.10.35 as of now) can be downloaded from the official Messenger Plus! Web site or from my mirror list.

This version should fix the sounds for everyone.

Your message whit the link was posted on 04-29-2003 so maybe it dosent work anymore.

Thank's anyway!

I'll comme back later to see if there is a new version or a patch ;-)

Eagle.

I do have Windows Media Player 9, it's not a codec problem, Messenger Plus cannot even playback raw wav files! It's the sound interface that has the problem, I don't have problems playing sound files of ANY kind in Windows Media Player 9. MCI interface is just obsolete.

Problem type : Annoying  messages boxes of Failed assertions

Problem description :

I get theses annoying messages boxes every time msn Plus! Plays a sound; either I have to click 20 + times on yes button to continue, without crashing, else
The ‘no’ and ‘cancel’ button crashes the app
Even when theres no others apps running in the background or other applications playing any sounds
Sound plays fine though.

Steps to reproduce : enter any sound commands in a dialog box, like /sevil or /sbrb (all of them triggers the Assertion failed

Image one: This message box is displayed when a sound is playing from msn

Image 2:  When the cancel button is clicked from the firs message box (above)

Image 3 :  when Yes and/or Cancel button is then clicked from the second message box (above):

Hope this helps!

By the way, making ‘release builds’ removes all _ASSERTE / _ASSERT code from the code in C++, weither it’s console, MFC, ATL, COM+
