Webcam to homepage by surfmore on 04-29-2010 at 01:56 PM

Is there a way I can broadcast my webcam on MSN and it shows in my homepage?

thank you.

Windows Live Messenger doesn't have any kind of feature to broadcast your webcam to a website.

There's various ways to do that, but none of them have anything to do with WLM.

Well. I understand that there are many applications using MSN api. isnt it possible to emulate a MSN client inside a homepage and show the webcam?

Example http://www.meebo.com/

I can use msn through the web. what is the code they are using. What i imagined is that if this is possible, it is also possible to show my webcam on my homepage.

no?

For what reason do you want to broadcast your webcam with MSN?

I know webcam was a suggested feature on Meebo for many years, so it's not quick and easy to do.

It seems much easier to use something like USTREAM, then you can embed it on your website?

i will take a look on ustream. thanks. I was thinking about MSN because people are used to it and would make things a lot easier.

Is this ustream free?

When you want to show your webcam on a webpage you need an API which will stream your webcam to the homepage, this doesn't have anything to do with Messenger.

There are thousands of utilities, programs and APIs which are able to do this: use Google and search for "webcam streaming" or "webcam broadcasting" or something.

If you don't mind relying on a third party I'd recommend looking into these:
USTREAM
Justin.tv
Lifestream.com
Stickam

These services allow you to stream your webcam to the world and embed it on your own site. There are also non-commecrial utillities and programs which allow you to do it without relying on a third party, but that means you will also need to provide the bandwidth for it. Depending on your hosting and/or ISP and the amount of visitors that may be expensive, or even impossible. When using a third party like the ones above you will only need to stream to them, they take care of the rest no matter how many people are watching. In exchange they might include a advertisement or try to attract your visitors to their site.

thank you for your answers. I will investigate the options. Do these services allow to me to keep the stream private to the people I want to?

I dont care if they show ads on the stream, but i would like to keep the live video private to my guests only.
