Emulating physical DVD burner by Chancer on 07-01-2010 at 01:56 AM

I'm making some tests with this "Windows DVD Maker", but I don't want to effectivly burn into discs, I'd rather generate an image file instead.
However, it will only allow me to burn using a physical drive (therfore, physical disc).

Is there any application that emulates a DVD drive so Windows think it's a physical drive?

DAEMON-Tools?

Does DT allow me do "burn" an iso using another program?

I tried this, but it doesn't work on Windows 7. Windows can't recognize the "drive".

Edit: No, DT can't do what I need.
Windows DVD Maker shows a list of drives, where I must chose one to use. I need a program capable of adding a virtual drive on that list.

Virtual CD v10 emulates CD/DVD burners (go here and click the Burning tab for info).

Unfortunately not, see here. According to the developer there's plans for it to be in DT Pro Advanced.

DT can make images from a disc and adds a virtual drive, is that what are you looking for?

Also ImgBurn can create images from discs too

Edit: I understand know, well Nero can emulate a burning stage and add a virtual drive, however I'm not sure if that could help you

Using Daemon Tools you can create a virtual drive and mount an image to it, thus resulting in Windows thinking you have a DVD in a drive; however it can't emulate a DVD-RW drive and have another program burn an image to it.

Think that's right.

I've just found this program, and it worked.

No. I wanted a virtual drive that windows could recognize as a real piece of hardware really burning capabilities. Programs such as DT, Alcohol, VCD can add read-only drivers. Some of them can create images, when you tell then what files to include.
However, Windows DVD Maker won't give me those files. It will only process the instructions and create the files after I click "Burn".
