I am downloading now.
It's very cool of valve to port this over to the source engine. It was a mod for unreal tournament, but then Valve hired the devs.
Also they are working on a sequel for it.
I just downloaded the sdk kit of the game and the tile based map maker for the game is pretty cool. What else is pretty cool is the fact that alien swarm is on pretty much the same source engine version as the yet to be released portal 2.

Nope.
Everyone of Valves games have a different source engine version. Each version bringing graphics improvements or something else new.
Edit: Looks like the game is made on left4dead2's source version.

Discrates right on this one they are completely different including the net code. On every new game its not only new but improved.
Counter Strike: Source is the biggest example of this, as good as the game actually is its net code is horrible.

I have finished the game on normal and now doing it on hard. It's a very fun game, especially since it's free.
