iTunes 10 by whiz on 09-03-2010 at 01:11 PM

Downloaded it this morning, but I think I prefer the older version.  The new one seems to be all grey, and it shows the main Music list using a view similar to that of Windows Media Player (although the older one is there as well).  The tray icon also appears a bit pixelated in the system tray...

RE: iTunes 10 by Nagamasa on 09-03-2010 at 01:29 PM

I don't prefer either version, but the icon looks like something from the XP-age...

RE: iTunes 10 by blessedguy on 09-03-2010 at 01:41 PM

I'm loving it.

But

RE: iTunes 10 by Menthix on 09-03-2010 at 01:47 PM

Only possibility of me even trying iTunes is still when being forced to, and in a VM.

RE: iTunes 10 by Spunky on 09-03-2010 at 02:22 PM

I used to like iTunes, but it seems to get more and more bloated. I stopped using it when my iPod nano died. I now use MediaMonkey which, whilst it looks simple, just feels a lot better

RE: iTunes 10 by djdannyp on 09-03-2010 at 04:47 PM

The icon seems a bit strange, not really in keeping with the new 'grey' feel of it all.  I don't  have many complaints besides that

RE: iTunes 10 by Eddie on 09-03-2010 at 05:26 PM

No real complaints from me to be honest, I use Winamp to play music and just use iTunes to sync my iPhone.

RE: iTunes 10 by aNILEator on 09-03-2010 at 06:00 PM

Mediamonkey gold with Agora MK2 skin myself
I still wish for there to be something 'better' though
Mediamonkey has a very powerful tagging and organisation engine but it's not the best at grabbing data. No Album art download database and the freedb for cd identification is a bit pants at times as well as non standard across submissions
Scripting engine is nice...... but isn't nice compared to extensions in songbird

Ideally I would like:
Sync all portable media players
Customizable filepath + filename for music storage
Customizable format ripping
Organization of files into library defined path/format settings
Standardised database structure with vast metadata available
High Quality (min 300x300) Album art
Multiple Genre support
Multiple/Featuring artist support
Skins
Gig listings from artists in my library/ ticket sales
Suggestions
Radio
Podcasts
EXTENSIONS/ADDONS!

Now I like the idea of ping...... but it just isn't gonna do it for me
It's music news.... not music, how can I discover new artsts, etc without listening to the songs? that's where I will always prefer last.fm (also I doubt the bands I listen to will be able to be followed.... which is another thing, why can't i download or access another countries music?).
Also why the fuck does itunes not recognise Metal as a genre? BUT does suggest Fitness/Workout as a genre???!!?!?!

Sorry Jobs, but your division needs a slap :P

Media monkey's good but getting a hold of podcasts is a pain, all the 'good' podacasts are nicely searchable within itunes, mediamoneky has some weird menu thing and haldf or more the podacasts aren't compatible or don't work. Rarely will the itunes podcasts publish the subscription URL elsewhere, so I need to register in itunes, download an episode, copy the subscription URL then import it into the other program. GROAN!

the odd min-max-close bar being moved on the mac also was weird and the volume bar having some dodgy shiny button didn't get the reason for it.

I dunno, I just want mediamonkey to be merged with songbird I guess :P

Shuffle 2G/4G [on off, shuffle/all, voice over] Nano 4G/5G/6G [hold, 6G: volume] like, btw.
RE: iTunes 10 by whiz on 09-04-2010 at 10:37 AM

Is it just my PC, or does the Classic Visualizer no longer work?

Is your comment somehow related to mine :S you seem to be talking about iPod's not iTunes software :S

Guess you got it wrong :P
That's where Apple got that oversized button from.

the slider button has dodgy shiney graphic, when everything else is flat don't see the point OR how the graphic relates to the iPods you mentioned:S

That 'oversized button' is the power button on iPod Shuffles and whatever else that blessedguy mentioned, that's why it's been used in iTunes itself

RE: iTunes 10 by aNILEator on 09-06-2010 at 04:37 AM

personally i find it ill fitting with the theme, more so if you say it's a button used on hardware to suspend power to the device. That's definitely not a slider for volume, why change it's purpose for the software :S

Meh, who knows, ping may kick off and evolve to something amazing.... I'm not getting my hopes up

RE: iTunes 10 by Chancer on 09-07-2010 at 02:55 AM

Does anyone use the coverflow? IDK if mine's buggy, but it doesn't remember the size when I shut it down. Everytime I open, it's on the smallest possible size.

RE: iTunes 10 by djdannyp on 09-07-2010 at 06:57 AM

Cover flow is a fixed size isn't it?

Not happening here =/
RE: iTunes 10 by djdannyp on 09-07-2010 at 02:11 PM

How do you change the size of it then?  I had a quick try this morning and couldn't find anything to drag to change the size of it :S

RE: iTunes 10 by djdannyp on 09-07-2010 at 05:12 PM

Ah, dunno how I missed that one :P

But no, I can't confirm the problem.  I did used to experience a similar thing with the Album Artwork window, but that was solved a couple of versions back

RE: iTunes 10 by Chancer on 09-07-2010 at 11:55 PM

Maybe reinstalling would fix, but I'm too lazy to do that.
