The hacker caused havoc! by Alibooma on 11-10-2010 at 02:43 PM

Hello all

I hope someone can help me with a problem I have.

About 4 to 5 months ago my @hotmail.com email account was hacked and apart from losing a few important emails and having all my email contacts spammed with great deals on prescription meds, the hacker deleted all of my msn contacts :(

Devastation!

The hacker did a great job. I asked a friend to add my email to her msn the other night and the request didnt pop up on my msn... it only works if I add other email addresses it seems!

Does anyone know how I can restore all of my old contacts as well as take my live account out of "lockdown" mode?

Thanks in advance

Ali

Welcome to the forum,

That is a change microsoft has made to force you to add eachother. It is a pain and no one knows why they did that.

What do you mean by lockdown mode? If you can log into the account and still have a list of contacts you can export them. If not then you are out of luck unfortunately.

Also the section of the forum you posted in is related to Messenger Plus! Live. This should have been posted in Windows Live Messenger. I have requested to have the thread moved.

That sounds like a viable reason actually. Prevents a lot of spambots.

So if I add someone they will no longer get a box asking them to Accept or Decline? :S

Interesting.  How long ago was this change made?

Exactly. You have to request that they add you as well.

Not exactly sure. It has been for a few months... maybe mid 3rd quarter.

I'm on WLM 2009 too, but I didn't receive an add-friend request the other day when my friend said he'd added me. :-/

AFAIK if you don't get invites at all, it is a fluke, not a feature...
But I don't have all the info.
