Uninstall the "Windows Live Essentials", then you can install this one. This is the latest version of WLM2009, before Microsoft decided to mess things up bigtime.

http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials-xp will also get you the latest Messenger 2009 build, from a trusted source and in all available languages. AFAIK this one shouldn't bug you about newer version since it is the most recent version XP users can use (works on Vista and 7 too).

I have WLM_14.0.8117.416. If i install this on Win 7 64bit Ultimate, will it complain to update to the new one? Is updating mandatory? Thanks

No it shouldn't annoy you if you download it from the link Menthix provided above.

If it does, just use it in XP Computability mode.

I extracted the WLM installer and i only have Messenger.msi. Will this also work without complaints? Thanks again.

Just download Messenger using the link Menthix provided (wlsetup-web.exe) and it'll work fine.

Thank you but the problem is the installer provided installs additional things which i do not choose, for example Windows Live Call. By using Messenger.msi and Contacts.msi you avoid all that extra that i am not asked to install and personally do not need. I will give it a try when i switch to Win 7 and see how that goes. Thanks.

Bad advice I'm afraid.

Using compatibility mode may cripple stuff in Messenger and chances are high it will even cripple the compatibility with Messenger Plus!.

Messenger will never bother you to update if you use the latest build of a version.

Messenger does use Windows Live Call... If you untick everything in the installer except for Messenger it will only install the components it needs. And mind you, eventhough you think you don't use something doesn't mean Messenger doesn't need it to run though!
You shouldn't extract stuff from the installer manually unless you know exactly what you're doing.

I tried in many ways now without success install msn and it keeps saying "you already have a more recent version of windows live"

and I have uninstalled all possible windows live materials...

What can I do? Please help!

Are there files in C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\ ? You could try manually deleting them (or using ZapMessenger).
