Text content rendering issue by stoneferry on 02-03-2011 at 10:58 AM

Hi all I was just wondering if any of you had come across an issue where MSN is capitalizing lowercase text in a word in error?

I have an issue with a certain recipient sending me replies with certain words capitalized. See screenshot attached:

Maybe it's a script on the sending person's side?

Thanks, you mean some sort of script intervening before the user sends the reply and capitalizing certain letters?

Yes, it's well possible.

Thanks a lot for the response I'll let my colleague know that he may have an unwanted malware on his computer.

Okay I've had a word with my colleague and he insists it's not a malware or virus and it's MSN doing this, has anyone seen an issue like this before?

Seeing the capitalize word is "cunt", I very strongly believe it IS in fact either malware, a script or some other addon doing this.

I can't be sure 500% of course (I don't have Messenger source code), but it seems very extremely unlikely this is just Messenger's doing. It's as good as impossible that this comes from Messenger alone.

Not wanting to say anything about your colleague, but quite often people do not even know what they have installed or what is running etc. So I would advise him to check his computer properly, or better yet, let someone else with the proper knowledge do it.

;)

EDIT: or, as the people below have said, he is lying his ass of, but I didn't wanted to assume that.

Judging by the way your friend's typing (like an arrogant idiot) and what they're saying, it's likely they themselves did it, and are just denying it to screw with you.

The fact that the moment you told them what they said, they blamed Microsoft, is very suspicious.

I can't find information on the proposed malware anywhere else on the web.. Could be some new minor malware or your colleague is playing some trick on you. Either way, it's completely out of the question that Microsoft would cause that.

Thanks a lot for all the feedback guys, I don't think it's an issue with MSN at the moment, and most likely my colleague's doing although at the moment, although he's still denying it.

He's proceeded to make a number of allegations, although I think most can be disregarded at this point.

First and foremost, we are not Microsoft!

Secondly, if I remember rightly there was a script for MP!L (if they are using it) that capitalizes certain words (You can clearly see YOu in the screenshot too)

Third, WLM does give a warning message when you are sent a link.

Fourth, if anybody grants you access to their computer, more fool them.

Fifth, if he is doing it himself, either don't let it get to you or stop talking to him.
