Auto login by alexb123 on 02-23-2011 at 11:16 PM

Since updating to 2011 I don't think auto login has worked.  Is this a known prob?  Or am I doing something wrong?

Cheers

This is not a known problem, it works solid for me on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 using Windows Live Messenger 2011, with and without Plus! auto-login has worked great.

Are you using any other third party software?
Are you sure it's configured right? If you enabled a second account for auto-login (by accident, perhaps) it will un-select your main account for auto-login.
Did you try a re-install?

Hi thanks for the reply.  I did the re-install and I still get the same problem.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers

Alex

If you want to know if you might be doing something wrong, we would have more room for suggestions if you could provide us with a few more details.

As you are using Windows Live Messenger 2011, I assume you're using Windows 7.

Do you have Messenger Plus! installed?
Any other third party software?
What happens when you start up your computer?
Does Windows Live Messenger boot up automatically?
Does it open up a window where you can login?
Can you show us a screen shot of that window?

Hi Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I have Messenger Plus but no other third party.

When I bootup MSN is loaded but not signed in.

"start messanger when I log on to my computer" is ticked.

I'm running Win 7.

So its loading MSN but not signing in.  Sorry I'm not sure how to do a screen shot.

Cheers

Alex

What _exactly_ doesn't work.
Please describe everything you see when you start Messenger, every step you do, and every releated option in Messenger.

Note that the failure of auto-login can be caused by a 'conflict' between old settings of WLM 2008 and the new settings of WLM.
Out of experience I can say that if you have certain registry keys left over from older versions, they take (still) precedence over newer settings and thus in some cases, auto-login might not work. I can't pinpoint it exactly (I have never looked into it - it doesn't bother me that much), but it has something todo with the default Windows Live Id used by Messenger.

Does your login screen and the Options menu look like on this picture?

If so, your problem might be a little more complicated, as CookieRevised has attempted to describe.
