Chrome's getting unstable... by whiz on 09-03-2011 at 02:10 PM

Anyone else been having issues with Chrome lately?  It crashes a lot when using some bookmarklets, the sync server is always busy, right-click sometimes freezes the window until it loses focus, installer always fails at startup with an unknown error code, and other stuff like that...

Windows 7 x64 SP1, Google Chrome 13.0.782.218.

hmm... nothing strange here. How many extensions have you been using?

Had problems with Sync for weeks (both Chrome and Chromium).

Bookmarklets are fine (after all, they're only javascript anyway; maybe related to a problem with a js engine?)

Installer and right-click fine too

Mine's never had problems, using the dev channel for aaaages, but on a mac.

I do have a fair few extensions, could be interfering with my bookmarklets (it's ones that open a new tab that cause both tabs to hang).  Right-click issue might be caused by a transparent menu tool thing I have, I'll turn it off for a bit and see if that helps.

Don't know what's causing the installer issue, I'll get a screenshot next time it comes up...

Anyone know what's up with the sync server?

Sync problems only seem to affect dev-m... Something to do with 2-step validation

Ah.  I'm using 2-step validation.

Does that mean it'll work if I generate an application password for Chrome?

With dev channel on Lion; had some problems with sync some releases ago, but they were fixed. Tab overview also used to crash chrome on full-screen with SIMBL installed, and the Chrome PDF Viewer was quite unstable since they started trying to use overlay scrollbars, but it's getting better.

Also using the beta channel on a Windows 7 virtual machine [virtualbox now supports aero on guests  ], works fine. And I use the stable channel on university, on OpenSuse with Gnome 2.x [they finally decided to upgrade it. Had to use Chrome 5 some weeks ago :c And on an old KDE release...], also working fine.

This is the installer error I'm getting.  Appears after most Windows logins (a few minutes after Windows has finished logging me in).  Clicking the help link goes here, which doesn't really help me.  O_o

Just disable Google Update in startup for now... It's probably not finished installing properly.. You could try uninstalling just Google Update and downloading it again

Removed it from startup with Soluto.  Will wait 'til next boot to see if it pops up again.

However, can't find it in Programs and Features to uninstall.  If the problem persists, is there a way of uninstalling it elsewhere?

Edit: tested sync on Chrome Canary, works without issues.
