Skins Help for WLM Plus! by TH43149 on 12-05-2011 at 04:33 AM

I've searched around and I'm unable to find a clear answer on how to fix this issue, so hopefully someone here can help.

I'm running WLM 2009 (Build 14.0.8117.416), I'm running the system as an administrator and I have Windows 7.

I've never tried to install any skins before and when I tried just today, this was my experience:

+ Downloaded the skin from the msgplus.net site
+ Opened the file after it finished downloading
+ Attempted to 'Import' the file from the pop-up box
+ Recieved 'Error: the destination directory for the skin couldn't be created'

Any suggestions?

Welcome!  Was the skin you downloaded meant for Windows Live Messenger 2011 or 2009?  The 2011 skins (with the exception of a few) don't work with WLM 2009 but there are plenty of skins for 2009.

This is not the issue...

OP: You need to take ownership of the WLM-Skins folder in the installation directory (Usually C:\Program Files\Yuna Software\Messenger Plus!\WLM-Skins). Right-click on the folder and click Properties > Click the Security Tab > Click Advanced > Click the Owner Tab > Click Edit > Select your Username > Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" > Click Apply and then Ok on all the other Windows.

Now try to import the skin.

Hello~ Thanks for replying!

I've looked all over and done a few searches, but I definitely don't have a Yuna Software folder. I do have a Messenger Plus! Live folder, but there are no other folders inside that except a Languages folder. Otherwise, there are only several .dll files and a couple .exe files.

Upgrade to Messenger Plus! 5 instead of Messenger Plus! Live 4 and try again.

Upgraded it. I now have a Yuna Software folder and the Messenger Plus! folder inside of that, but no Skins folder. I tried creating one, but that didn't make a difference, and I tried changing ownership on everything already, also. I'm still getting the same error message.

Please post a screenshot of the directory it should look something like this:

(Your path may be different depending on where you installed Messenger Plus! to as well as which version of Windows you are running (32 vs 64 bit))

(Ignore the file names if they don't match I test things sometimes)

It appears that the installer has trouble creating the appropriate directories that is rather interesting. Create the following 2 folders:

WLM-Scripts
WLM-Skins

Once you have done that then try and import the skin.

Still no luck. I'm getting the same error.

out of curiosity: what is the name of the skin you're trying to install? Or do you have it will all skins?

------

PS: also, please don't use colors and don't center the text of your post for no good reason. It is not only more work for you (you need to enter the tags), but is is also very annoying to read.

;)

=/ I prefer the look of aligned, colored text, but since you've stated your opinion, I'll leave it plain for messages I direct toward you. And the reasoning is for aesthetic purposes, which is always an excellent reason, imho.

It's with all skins I've tried, to answer your question.
