Records don't store in folders [in skype 5.9] by ajshva on 04-15-2012 at 10:48 PM

I've used msng plus for skype first without problems.
After I reinstalled my laptop and installed msng plus for skype again, it didn't work like before:

It starts recording, show video compression dialog when stop recording, but it doesn't store local recordings where I want to.
After searching I found something in C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\xxx\Lokale Einstellungen (local)\Temp\SkypePlus, but it isn't one file => 1 video file ("video"), 2 audio files ("yours" and "theirs").

It seems like encoding doesn't work.

I'm using skype version 5.9.32.114 and the newest msng, Windows XP SP 3.

***** What can I do? I would be glad if someone can help me in this case.

There seems to be others with the same problem.

Edith says "New situation":
When stopping the call, recording stops and encoding starts - and the file is available...

PS: Sorry for mistakes, English isn't my first language.

New situation/Solution:

It seems to be the solution... Downloading an old version of skype (5.8) - recording ok, encoding ok, file stores correct.

Hello asjhva,

Might the version of Skype you used when experiencing this problem be a beta version?

RE: Records don't store in folders by ajshva on 04-18-2012 at 11:27 AM

Nope, official version from skype page (5.9) - might be the business version.

RE: Records don't store in folders by Sunshine on 04-18-2012 at 03:10 PM

Thanks ajshva, I will try and find out if it is the business version. I used to know a website where all them different versions were listed with version number and everything, but I can't find it anymore.

Officially Plus! for Skype only supports the regular free version.

RE: Records don't store in folders by ajshva on 04-18-2012 at 05:30 PM

oldapps provides every skype version, where I got the older skype version from.

Plus records without problems now (old version), but sometimes it crashes and open two or more icons in the taskbar.

If I have more time I'll try it with the newest skype version again.

RE: Records don't store in folders by Sunshine on 04-19-2012 at 10:05 AM

hello again asjhva,

The buildnumbers of Skype are as follows:
5.9.0.114  - regular free version for Windows - http://www.skype.com/go/getskype
5.9.32.114 - business version for Windows - http://www.skype.com/intl/en/business/download/

After some testing (both versions) I found the following:
- It does record, encode/create a file if you let the recording stop on its own (end of call). This will work no matter if you keep the default folder or change it to one of your choice.
- If you stop the recording yourself (click stop recording button) the file does not get created, independant of which folder you store them in.

Can you confirm this?

RE: Records don't store in folders by ajshva on 04-19-2012 at 12:19 PM

Correct!

It was exactly the same when I used it.

RE: Records don't store in folders by Sunshine on 04-19-2012 at 12:25 PM

Thank you for confirming :)

I've filed a report of these findings (#6276) so devs can have a look and fix.

Thank you!

You're welcome :)

May I add a suggestion to this, because it sounds to me that this is more a matter of (design) choice than it is a bug or something:

I understand that some people do want the recording saved, even if you stopped it yourself. On the other hand, there might also be people who find it more logic that if you stopped the recording, nothing gets saved.

So, what about a confirmation dialog to ask if the recording must be saved or removed, after you've stopped the recording yourself? In that way, both ways are still possible.

RE: Records don't store in folders by Sunshine on 04-20-2012 at 09:18 AM

CookieRevised,

With Skype 5.8 Plus! for Skype does create these files/recordings when you stop the recording yourself. The same Plus! version is used on Skype 5.9 therefore it is a bug.

I do understand the reasoning about some not wanting the recording upon stopping the recording themselves so I've filed your suggestion (#6317). Thanks

RE: Records don't store in folders by ajshva on 04-20-2012 at 09:21 AM

@ CookieRevised

I have often very long (video) call, within I want to record just some minutes. Recordings can be deleted after stopping the record (in my opinion).

The suggestion is good, but the confirmation dialog should have a button to choose if asking again or not ^,^

Ah, yeah. In that case absolutely correct.
I misread...

Just used the new msgplus for skype (mich999's link) with the new skype business version (the normal one won't install like adobe flash player on my new installed laptop -,-) 5.9
Problem's gone! Recording and saving without problems :)

Thanks a lot!

I can confirm it works correctly now on regular free Skype 5.9 (5.9.0.114) too :)

Thanks for the very fast fix!

Hi,

It doesn't work for Skype 5.10.0.116.

I mean, the recordings files aren't saved.

What can I do?

RE: Records don't store in folders [in skype 5.9] by Nathalie on 01-17-2013 at 01:13 PM

asherai - Upgrade to latest version of Skype and latest version of Messenger Plus! (for Skype) and see if this works.

RE: Records don't store in folders [in skype 5.9] by asherai on 01-17-2013 at 01:37 PM

Hi,

Thank you for your answer.
I have the latest version of Messenger Plus! (for Skype).
I don't have the latest version of Skype, because it has a bug: the numbers pad doesn't work.
However, with the same versions it works on another computer!

P.S.
I'll appreciate it very much if your application will have the option to sign me as busy, when recording a conversation (like in Pamela for Skype).
