Blackberry curve battery issue - Swelling by Oxy on 06-12-2012 at 12:22 PM

hey guys.

Ive had a blackberry curve 8520 for a while now, but, thats not pivotal to the issue. my issue is concerning the battery.

It seems to be swelled. I've noticed for a while that the back doesnt seem to fit properly, and i put it down to wear and tear. but, i found the other day that the battery has actually swelled, and i've ordered a replacement.

My question is, is it safe to use this battery until the new one arrives? like, even intermittently, for only a while a few times a day? or is it necessary to air on the side of caution? I've googled a few websites, including crackberry forums, but there isnt any consistent answer - everyones saying different things..

thanks.

ANY battery that has swolen is generally unsafe. It swells when under pressure. If that pressure is relieved by having the casing crack, you're going to ruin your phone and potentially get chemical burns on yourself.

Also, be aware that you cannot just throw the damaged one in the trash, it needs to be recycled or treated as hazardous waste. Procedures for this will vary, contact your municipal services for the correct disposal method.
