Well, yes i guess its up to them wether they want to destroy their brand.

It may be the same to us msn addicts, but there will only be confusion among n00bs (i.e the majority of msn users)

I predict they'll revert back to MSN branding by MSN 9.0

i used to call it messenger all the time, wat i dont get is why some people calls it MSN,  and is not only Windows Live, is Windows Live Messenger. and people that is used to it and knows about it,can simply say Messenger, like if i said messenger here wat is the first thing u think about MSN messenger isnt it?

i wonder if they are gonna have a new icon instead of the butterfly..or it can be only the two people one:D can wait to c it:drool:

Good point in a comment on Leah's blog:

Well, that's all. I hope there won't be much confusion between Windows Messenger and Windows Live Messenger. The word 'live' doesn't really mean much to the consumer, or just isn't much appealing. Confusing! Not for me, but for the regular joe.

maybe they got annoyed with people sayin the company name, but actually only referring to a certain part of the company, therefore, not thinking of msn as search, emails etc..but only as messenger. maybe they want people to think of those when they here the term MSN

but yeh, the new name is sad

That is a very bad move in my honest opinion. I mean, it has always been called MSN Messenger. And there is already an Windows Messenger client. As the people posted on Leah's blog, it is going to be VERY confusing. I will be reshacking my "Windows Live Messenger" to say MSN Messenger indeed. This is bad news for those of us with sites that customize MSN Messenger :blah:

its a name...:dodgy:

This program is very well established as one of the best IM, and a name change is not going to change anhything,

"OMG look at the name! Im not getting that its obviously going to suck"

come on...:S
