Win XP SP2 w/latest updates
Windows Live Messenger Ver. 8.0
Messenger Plus! Live!

Chat log feature does not save the chat session.  I am using encryption and can get into the file but the chat session is not there.

Is anyone else having this problem?  Suggestions or fix is appreciated!

May have solved this

I think it is a setting in "Windows Live Messenger".  Cannot test it yet but will report back... here is what I did:

Opened Win Live Messenger... choose>Tools>Options>Messages Tab> Then:
Check "Auto keep a history of my conversations"> Then update the section "Save my conversations in this folder".  In my case it is:

C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Chats

Am more than a little and will report back.  Feel confident this will do the trick.

P.S. After further investigation it is the Encryption that does not work.  I am getting unencrypted .xml format rather than .ple format that is the encrypted form.

If not, make sure you have selected a folder which u do have acces to in the Plus! settings.

Thanks!  I did have the correct setting in Messenger Plus... think that is what tricked my mind into not realizing there was a setting in Windows Live Messenger as well.

Maybe this episode will help someone else!

I have exactly the same problem, but the empty ple files disappear when I disconnect.
I tried checking "Auto keep a history of my conversations" in msg live but the problem is still there.

Can someone help me ?

Your English is just fine.   In my instructions above... did you change the path where you want your chats saved in the area just below where you checked "Automatically keep a history of my conversations"?  Sorry Dutch that I cannot be of more help.

I made the changes mentioned above and now my chats are saved but I have another anomaly.  The files are not encrypted as I thought and are open for anyone to read by simply clicking on the file.  Does anyone know how to correct this so all chat files are encrypted?  Nitrolinken, where are you... maybe you know the answer.

Yes, I did. The logs of Msg Live are saved (xml format), but there are no Msg Plus! Live encrypted logs (ple format).

Hello, I have the same problem.

In Msgplus Live, I choose to save conversations in TXT format. When I am talking with my contacts, a TXT file appears, but nothing in it, and when I close the conversation, the file disappears.

In MSN Live, I select to enable chat log, but nothing changes.

Is this a bug ?

Could u take a screenshot of the settings, so that I'm sure how it is?

UP : for me, always the same problem, chat logs in TXT format are not saved.

Anyone have a solution ?
