O.P. Roll Eyes  Getting proper internet speeds
I recently got cable that's supposed to be 2Mb/2Mb but when I run speed tests like speakeasy, I get poor results. I get an average of about 700Kbps/600Kbps.

What can I do to get these speeds to what they should be? eg: 1900Kbps/1800Kbps.

I have ran optimizers but they haven't really helped.

RE: Getting proper internet speeds
There are numerous things which can affect this:

- Speed tests are never really good indications. They're hosted on a server on the internet which is affected by other traffic, are not located close to you etc.

- You're on a shared network. Cable networks are not dedicated lines. Your line is dedicated right to the point where it gets to the street - from then on it is shared with any of your neighbours who are also connected to the cable network and their bandwidth usage can affect your transfer rates (assuming your ISP is not overloading their network and have adequate bandwidth available - which they probably do)

Generally (if you have proof from servers located near you on the internet) you can call up your ISP and complain about the speed - they'll run some tests on the connection and the modem remotely and if you still experience problems they may send a technician out to take a look at your modem, line and connection.

Well I just went onto my laptop and ran the same test and got 1269Kbps/1419Kbps...I ran the test again on this pc and got 848Kbps/506Kbps. I know the results will vary each time but the laptop did have better speeds on average.

Remember that that's bits per second, and download rates are usually measured in bytes per second.

Yep, I remember that ;)I just ran a test at NZDSL and I do get better speeds which are closer to my plan, but comparing to my laptop they are still worse.

Yeah, I used that a while go and it was good.
I think my problem is pretty much sorted because I compared it to other people in my area with the same connection and they get similar.
I've also made some other changes that improved it.
