O.P. Sarching for a new router.
hey guys.. I'm searching for a new router, and since i have exactly no clue what to look for or what to chose, I come to you for advice.

I want something fast but also secure.. And easily configurable.. I don't know if there's anything else I should say? Allowing wired and wireless connection..

Oh, and also, my new laptop support wireless N but my other computers are on G.. so I don't know if it's backward compatible.

Thanks for the help. :)

I believe he wants a router only, not a modem+router thing.

I wouldn't think so.

Thanks, I do read from review though that the wireless N is not that fast compared to a lot of N routers..

Does anyone have anything else? I've been thinking about this one :
Dlink Xtreme N Wireless Router (DIR-655)

Try to get a Linksys WRT54GS v2.1, best router to put DD-WRT on.

d-link > linksys anyday. Just from personal experience, which admittedly is not much. d-link was a breeze to set up- reset to factory settings, refresh your DHCP, lock it down, and you're there. No need to even look at it again, which is how it should be.

I struggled with linksys for hours before throwing in the towel. What sort of crappy router requires software? Ugh. For the record, the software didn't even work.

Note I say all of this as someone who had never set up a network before, so maybe I missed something. But yes, d-link ftw.
was put impeccably into words at DebianDay for me last Saturday, by Knut Yrvin of Trolltech - adults try something once, fail, and then are like "ffs this doesn't work". Children try, fail, and then try again, and succeed - maybe on the second, or even fifth retry. But the thing is that they keep at it and overcome the problems in the end.

Get one that supports DD-WRT (like the Linksys WRT54GL), loads of value for a reasonable price.

More info from lifehacker or the DD-WRT site.

EDIT: Pfft, someone already mentioned DD-WRT.
