Unscrew the old power supply, screw in the new one and connect everything the way it was before. Don't worry, most connectors will only fit where they have to.

hm. doesnt sound too bad then...

im just hoping nothing else went 'poof' along with the power box!

i was thinking of taking it to the local computer shop and just offering him money to do it, but do you think its easy enough to do if i just buy a power supply off him? im not a total newb at thing, just i have never had to replace a power supply before...

Yes, it's a fairly easy process. And it's highly unlikely anything else got damaged, power supply units are specifically designed to prevent this.
Also, there are numerous guides and even videos on how to replace a PSU on the internet. You could even take a picture of how everything is connected before removing the old unit if you want to be sure.

thanks!

I had my last PC killed the same way (sparks from the back of the PSU). PSU, Mobo, TV card, and a harddisk died.
Finish the problem

all of that died? okay... that's not so good..

i think something in the psu has blown up, so im hoping the damage to that has saved the rest of it! its rattling around a bit ^o)

Me and you are in the same boat..
I'm not sure if you know this, but as i've been told, you must get the correct number of connectors, power for gfx card if needed, and the number of pins on the connectors (ie: 20/24pin mainboard connectors. that's vital)
But if you did know all that, then i apologise for wasting your time. :P

Buying a cheap PSU is just asking for your system to get fried.
