I updated from WLM 8.5 to the new version 2009. But now all my contacts are gone and I can't even add new contacts.

I'm using Windows XP.

I think I had this when I tried the first beta just over a year ago, try re-installing WLM09, you may need to use something called ZapMessenger so it won't think it's still installed

Don't advise people to use ZapMessenger unless the normall uninstaller fails!

Please try uninstalling Windows Live Messenger by looking in your Add/Remove Programs for 'Windows Live Essentials' then click 'Change' and untick the box for Messenger to uninstall it

Then re-download it from here and try re-installing it

I have re-installed it 3 times. ~

on web messenger my contacts are still there. and on my other computer I tried it with WLM8 and my contacts were there too.

Try deleting your local cache of contacts which will cause WLM to try to re-download it from the server.

Close Messenger then do the following:

Start > Run > Type %USERPROFILE%\Contacts and click OK. Delete the folder which is named your email address.

Then try signing into Messenger and give it 5-10 minutes and it should hopefully re-download your contacts

it's what you have to type

it's a shortcut to get to the proper folder

do exactly as is posted above
