O.P. About specific Chat Logging options.
i havent used MSN in a long long time. The last time i was using messenger was back in like 2006. Now i've gotten back into it seeing as ive moved away from city anywaysss....

I have windows live messenger 2009 installed.

I got the new msg add on (freaking love it).

Now i remember back in the old days Msg+ had a feature where if i closed the chat window (usually by accident) i could re open and my conversation history would still be there just grey'd out with a time stamp to show those were previous msgs sent. I'm trying to find this option with the new MSG+ but i cant seem to find it. Any ideas ? That was a very useful feature as it saved me time from going into the saved chat log files from either WLM or MSG+ or even asking the person to repeat themselves.

Thanks for the help.

i ran two searches,

"see chat logs after window closed"

"see previous messages after window closed"

couldnt find what i was looking for.

This feature does not exist in the latest Messenger Plus!.

The solution (unfortunately) is what you already know, you'll need to check your chat logs.

The feature is a part of Windows Live Messengers own chat logging. If you enable that too, you will get the option to show messages from previous conversations in the chat window

As Spunky said, this was never part of Messenger Plus!, but rather a feature in Windows Live Messenger itself. Chat History....

In Windows Live Messenger, see:
Tools > Options > Messages > Show my last conversation in new conversation windows
(you also need to have chat logging enabled in Windows Live Messenger itself though)

Anyways, what I'd really wanted to say:

Because, if you search for something (goes for general searches on Internet (Google) too): never enter a literal sentence between quotes. Otherwise the search will be done on that literal sentence and not on the keywords, greatly reducing the chance that something would be found. Instead you should search for keywords, and without using quotes. Eg:
chat logging
chat history

;)
