sig pics by stoshrocket on 10-14-2005 at 08:36 PM

okies, i have designed a pic for my sig which is here. But when i come to placing it in my signature using the img tag in the code it doesnt show, it doesnt work for some reason. the following is the coding that wont work for my sig 'cept that the <'s and >'s are actually ['s and ]'s so that it will show::

code:
<align=center><b>:: MEthos 2 ::</b>
http://methos2.skarz.co.uk
<img>http://methos2.skarz.co.uk/sig2.gif</img>
</align>

I'm sure this should work, i have checked the image size allowed and everything and cant see whats wrong, any suggestions???

RE: sig pics by stoshrocket on 10-14-2005 at 08:39 PM

^^read the thread first, i said that all the <'s are ['s in the code, i put them in so you can see the code and not the failed sig...

RE: sig pics by rix on 10-14-2005 at 08:40 PM

code:
[ align=center][ b]:: MEthos 2 :[ /b]
http://methos2.skarz.co.uk
[ img]http://methos2.skarz.co.uk/sig2.gif[ /img]
[ /align]

It works for me. Remove the space after [.

because http://http:// redirects to microsoft.com (They must own 'http' as a TLD or something.)
RE: sig pics by stoshrocket on 10-14-2005 at 08:48 PM

strange, i can't see it at all in FF and it comes up as the unavailable cross in IE, can any1 else actually see my sig??

It redirects to an MS site because you (or a program he once executed) has set your browser to redirect to that MS site when an URL cant be found. This is the same as when you type plain text you could also let it redirect to your favorite search engine instead of getting an error message.

In other words: it's because of how your browser is set up.
RE: sig pics by stoshrocket on 10-14-2005 at 09:15 PM

To correct you; CookieRevised, Microsoft have apparently a PTR on the DNS root servers, which is 'http'.  Just like the guy from EFnet called samy who has the PTR 'ws.'

So, it's not an error, it's a PTR in the root DNS servers.
RE: sig pics by CookieRevised on 10-14-2005 at 10:46 PM

maybe but then why aren't other people getting it
(and why are there options in some browsers to instead of showing the common error message, redirecting you to certain sites)

RE: sig pics by brian on 10-14-2005 at 10:48 PM

Firefox redirects http://http to MS, altho the other browsers probably check for link validity, so they wont accept it.

RE: sig pics by CookieRevised on 10-14-2005 at 10:51 PM

but standard MSIE on a standard PC also gives your normal "cant find page" error message. Shouldn't that be also redirected then?

but it doesnt show in IE either, but i am using v1.07 for FF, and v6.0.2900... for IE, strange eh?
RE: sig pics by surfichris on 10-15-2005 at 01:06 PM

http://www.google.com/search?q=http

Microsoft is the first result.

Why Firefox but not IE? Firefox uses Google for any URL's which are invalid (so if you type in blah in the address bar it will take you to the first result for blah on google.)

[edit]IE would do something similar if you put in http by itself but using their search engine.

Anything Firefox doesn't recognise it uses the Google "I'm feeling lucky" to try and find it.

It has nothing to do with DNS or PTR records.
