Your friend can download it from the link you will get, but she will be unable to sign in, she needs to be invited to sign in. You will proabbly get some invites in the future, or you can ask around, there's plenty going around right now. This screenshot does indeed look like a genuine Windows Live Messenger invite message. But yes, like CookieRevised stated, make sure the link does point a Microsoft website to ensure it is real and not gonna infect your computer.
