A configurable now playing script it provides the following commands
/np  - winamp now playing
/inp - iTunes now playing
/wnp - WMP now playing
/jnp - jetAudio now playing*
/mnp - music monkey now playing


/play - plays current song
/pause - pauses the current song
/stop - stops the current song
/next - skips the song
/prev - goes to the previous song
/sendwinampsong /sendsong - sends current winamp song to contact
/lyrics - shows lyrics for current song

and the tags

(!WAT) - winamp one
(!IWAT) - iTunes one
(!WWAT) - wmp
(!JWAT) - jetAudio*
(!MWAT) - music monkey

*jetaudio only works on plus 4.10 and above.

When you are talking to someone, click the Messenger Plus icon above the text entry, there will be a sub menu for the plugin and everything is in there.

Before I had to reformat a few weeks ago, I had it to where the "Show What's Playing" would show my Winamp song, however, now it doens't, and I don't remember the Plug-in. Is it possible to make this one do that?

try the mess patch for winamp support (i think that should solve it - just run the mess patch, if there isn't an option to add winamp support it might do it automatically)

hmm, it pauses iTunes ok, but  when i try "/play" it says that the command entered was not recognised...

I know this is a problem of foobar2000's plugin. However, is it possible to add direct foobar2000 support with Unicode?

i don't know if it is my fault, but i can't mange it that only the filename (without the .mp3) is returned as song information. i have all my winamp songs in this format: "artist - album - number - title" (or "album - number - artist - title" at samplers), without id3v* tag. and i want to return the complete filename as it is showed in winamp, not just "artist - title".

is this possible right now? if not could you fix it please?
at the old messenger version it was possible to type just (!WAT) then the information i wanted was returned.

i have for example: Blabla Artist vs Artist Without A Name - This Is A Song For You (The Special Version Remix)

and it would cut off, although it's in the id3 tag (id3v1 & v2)

so i would get "Blabla Artist vs Artist W - This Is a Song F"

any ideas ?

I was wondering, is this plugin intended to show the currently played song in the Personnal Message area of Windows Live Messenger?
If yes, I cannot make it work
If not, would this be possible to add as a new feature?
I also thought of a {personnalMsg} tag which would allow you to add the current personnal message to the np string :
for example if your pm is currently set to "on vacation" and then you launch winamp, it would become "on vacation -- NP : the song in winamp". do you think it's possible ?

works fine for me, open up the config for the script and under (!WAT) format add ur tags... im usin {artist}-{title}

So if you type "haha check this song (!WAT)" you see "haha check this song SomeArtist - SomeSong" and not just "SomeArtist - SomeSong"?

Yes it is, but for some reason (maybe because I use Toaster?), (!MYMEDIA) shows something like {1} - {0} - <artist> - <title> and that's really annoying, so I edited the (!WAT) function of this script.

Edit the script. In the drop-down box select main.js. Look for:
function OnEvent_ChatWndSendMessage(Wnd,Message)

Below that you sould see three lines of code that have something like: /\(!WAT\) or something like that hidden in it. Select those lines and replace them by this.

That's why none of my songs have " - " in the artist name. Artists that have a hypen in the name, don't have spaces around it.

e.g.: The All-American Rejects, American Hi-Fi, blink-182. But you're right, now that I think about it, I have 2 songs that have " - " in the song title.

So I came up with this:

Firstly, thanks a lot for this!

I missed (!WAT), and whenever I used (!MYMEDIA), it was doing "{1} - {0} - Artist - Title". No idea what that was all about.

Few things though, although I've found the fix for songs with '-' in the title a few posts up, it might be worth putting that fix in the file linked to at the start of the thread, so everyone doesn't have to do it themselves?

Also "/lyrics" doesn't seem to do anything. Am I missing something? Does it only read lyrics from ID3 tags, or does it fetch them from a lyrics site?

Finally, {album} doesn't display anything. I'm using Winamp (latest) and all my files have id3 v2.3 tags, so, any ideas?

Hey -dt-  I've got a problem but first let me tell you how awesome your script is potentially.

I'm not much of a winamp users, i use a program called MusikCube, i've used plugins similar to this in the past for msn messenger, this live one is a bit diferent though.  I browsed through your programming in the winampClass one, and i think i've spotted the problem for me, but i'm clueless about how to fix it.


all of the values in the arrays for all the other variables that work are completely different from the artist and title album, and a few others.

this is what i get when i click the plugin:

np    : no_ex - no_ex [04:04]

(almost everything works besides artist, title, and album)

i saw the two functions, oldcurrent and the new current one, to playback the track, and it looks like some sort of hexadecimal is used to define certain variables in those arrays, and i see 1024 for the songname and stuff..... But like i said those funcitons are way different and i think its the reason its not working.  Bitrate works too and its using that interop call thing.

I know my musikcube has a plugin that fully emulates winamp so this is possible, i'm just lost on grabbing hte data like the old plugin used to.  Any help would be wonderful.

this script would be 100x better if you made it so it shows the song details in your privert message instead of the regular artist - song. you could then chose what to show.

The stream bug is weird. I got a couple of internet radio stations I listen to. Below you see a few examples of 'Now Playing' outputs. Note that all of these 5 support 'current title'.

The Dance.FM aac+ stream works fine. ("Accadia - Blind Visions [Harry Peat Rmx] (Dance.FM :: The Beat of Amsterdam :: Powered by NetAware.net) (64k aac+)")

1.FM Dance Hits doesn't work ("no_ex-212.72.186")

XFM doens't work ("no_ex-breedband.xfm")

Fresh FM doesn't work ("no_ex-no_ex")

Music One doesn't work ("no_ex-1011").

It's quite odd...

All using Winamp (5.2) and the most recent version of Now Playing... (1.0.7 if I'm not mistaken)

I also noted all internet radio station's that are using Windows Media such as Radio 538 and Energy 98 Dance Hits make WLM crash when trying to use Now Playing.

I noticed a strange bug. My 'Now Playing' settings are "{artist}-{title}" for format and (!WAT) format. However, the output is always "ARTIST - TITLE", like

Digital Dog Feat. 45 Flat - Dirty.

With the song Rotterdam Terror Corps - Chaos on the Dancefloor (E-Noid Rmx) (don't blame me for this song a friend sent it to me) the output is

(without the spaces next to the dash). Somewhere in this thread I saw there was an issue with dashes in a song title. I guess that applies to this bug too. Can this be fixed?

I noticed two problems with the new version.

A - I noticed that while Tracks with - in the Artist Name now work, much like dude commented on the Streams issue, even the songs that have Artist & Title in the ID3 data had an extra " - " in front of them. Every last song :\

B - Second thing I noticed is, some of the features stopped working after updating. The command to send the info, "!np" which I had changed to "!s" no longer worked, aswell as the command to SEND the file, "!sendsong" which I had changed to "!ss" no longer worked either. Though (!WAT) worked fine.

I even tried changing them to their defaults and still no luck. I have no idea how I did it, but I have reverted it back to the version that was release, before yesterdays update and now both of them features work just fine,

C - This doesn't just pertain to the newest update, more of a thing I had happen even before. It seems that if someone else has their Send Information & Send File commands set the same as yours, then it'll send your info.

I first noticed this when I recommended this script to a friend. He got it, and when trying it out, he would type "!np" and my information would show, now sure what showed on his end. Either way, I changed my commands to something different and his worked just fine.

Either way, I REALLY love your script. Just the minor bugs I noticed, thought I'd tip you off so you could investigate into the problem.

EDIT: Forgot a detail in the second issue. To make things very strange, I opened a convo window with one of my old Address (which wasn't online) and both the !s & !ss commands worked perfectly fine, but not when in convo's with atleast 3 other people while they was online. :\

Maybe it's good to mention that this addon for WMP must be activated for Now Playing to function properly.

Yes it does, you're right. But if WMP crashes, all addons are deactivated automatically and the addon does not carry the name 'Now Playing script for MP!L' or something so people won't recognize it

I've got a question. Is it hard to add something like {filename} and {folder} ? It would come in handy so I could show some1 the album. Because the dir the file is in is the name of the album. For example: VA_-_The_No_1_Hardcore_Classics-4CD-2006-SQ

It doesn't change your PM. You can use the command or the old (!WAT) (in case of Winamp) shortcut to let the other person know what you are listening to.

If you want to change your PM to the song you are currently playing in Winamp, I suggest you try the Winamp Media script or the MessengerAmp plugin for Winamp

BTW... Files with ID3v1 and v2 turned off, so files without ID3 information, also have an extra ' - ' in front of the title.

Hmm, yet another update on my troubles. I didn't notice the "/<function>" commands until I checked the first page just a moment ago, looking for the WMP command. Both the /np & /sendsong commands work beautifully. So, the problem seems to be isolated in the "Remote Commands", am I the only one having issues with the Remote Commands not working?

It might be something isolated on my PC, as I've noticed one other problem with MSN here in the last several days, when a new song plays, MSN shows it in the Now Playing (and after my name on the Contact List), then it disappears as if there's no media playing after anywhere from 3 to 15 seconds after it plays. Irritating, Lol.

Eitherway, maybe the further info might help you find the problem, or help narrow it down to being a problem with my PC.

Eitherway, I think I have UNCOVERED what was causing my trouble with the Remote Commands! I sniffed it out, I did, I did! Lol. Ok, it seems that the problem occured after installing your next update after Aug 14th, I went back and made a copy of the Script Folder (containing the NEW files) and went to your site and overrode the files in the MAIN folder with all the files from Aug 14th (some being Aug 9th)

The remote commands worked great with the Aug 14th version, so I went in search of differences in the coding that might have caused it. I eventually narrowed it down to the "Main.js" file. Here's the chunk that seemed to cause it:

Actually nothing happens. I mean, when I type /lyrics or click this option in the NP menu, the lyrics window opens... 'Till here everything is fine...

When I choose the autoupdate mode to iTunes, it recognizes the music is playing and autofill the boxes of artist and song... But no result is given, even if I click "Search".

Plus! 4.10 has a lot of problems with the old scrips, for unknown reason. Email Tooltip, for example, makes Messenger crash.

So, WMP11 is supported, but we need to wait for an update that will fully support Plus! 4.10. Well

That is because 1 name has to be thought of before the actual script is written, and 1 after, so after a few days/weeks/months of hard working there is a big chance you've come up with a better name...
Also when changing the name the user has to uninstall any previous versions, which is quite a bit of work for a newbie...

the copy i had installed was "Music Now Playing" and i changed the name to "now playing" a while ago and yeah =p

A) Change the thread name
B) Change the screenies

dt sucks at updating things (or rather he cba)

On the bright side, the new version works great apart from the fact that it still searches for lyrics online rather than in the archive first

No matter what I do, I can't get Now Playing to work with WMP, everytime I type my command to say what's on there, it just says "   Now Playing    ~*~   " and when i type /wnp it says    Now Playing    ~*~    (!WWAT) i'm using WMP 10, live messeger 8.1 Beta, and messenger plus 4.10 can anyone help? I don't want to go back to Winamp cause it crashes all the time >.<

I think im a nuff or newb or wateva, but I don't know how to use MNP to display what I'm listening to in my personal message, like how others who just have plain old messenger withou live can. Id like to know how to because Windows Live Messenger doesn't show "what I'm Listening to"for iTunes.

Hi! I'm using JetAudio 6.2.6 Basic, Windows Live Mess. 8.1, Messenger Plus 4.11 and 1.1.7v of this scipt.
I don't know what should I do, to see something on my personal message bar. I've tried everything, I think it's not working with JetAudio.
The script is installed, and in the bar I wrote: (!JWAT)
Any ideas?

(It didn't worked with Live Mess 8.0 with Mess.Plus 4.1 and 1.1.5 script too.)

It does not work, the drop down lists died. THey wont open, commands wont work.

(Was working before I actually opened Winamp and was setting it up )

The only problem I have is that I can't add my own custom image for instances when there is no album image. When I browse for a image and select it or even type out the location of the image myself it won't work :/

But other than that everything else works perfectly fine =3

Any chance of you expanding this script just a tad to fully work with MediaMonkey? Before (and even now) the options of "(!WAT)", "/NP" & "/SendSong" worked while using Monkey, I'm not completely sure of the story behind it, but I believe MMonkey was built upon the WinAmp software, or something along the line as when trying to uninstall WinAmp for instance, it will tell you that you need to close WinAmp when you only have MediaMonkey open. (It also works with pretty much all of the plugins built for WinAmp).

So, I figured the two new features (PSM & DP) would work just the same, but even when selecting WinAmp, it can't pull the information from MM. I have loved your script for a long while, and it would be great if I could combine two of the things I love the most, your Script & "Teh Monkey" Lol.

While I would love for you to extend this script to be able to pull the information from this player, I realize that this player isn't likely even known by ALOT of people, let alone used. That is why I won't go kicking and screaming if you decide not to, or simply can't implement support for it. It would simply be iceing on the cake so to speak.

I tried to see if I could get it to work, I was apperaing offline which might be the reason, but no comand worked with WMP - didn't have time to test if winAMP still worked.

Yeah its one of those random things that don't switch on instantly sometimes.
Like sometimes the psm doesn't come up immediately (when initially switched on) so a simple pause/play in winamp fixes that

For some strange reason... when you said to your script that select an image if didn't find the album art and the windows of select the file pops up... the .jpg can not be seing ! (I don't try it with other extensions) but when you copy the exact path like
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documentos\My Shared Folder 3\Rakim y Ken-Y\Masterpiece World Tour\soldout_cd.jpg" then your script displays the album art perfect...

hmm another problem...
when i put !WAT, sometimes works properly but sometimes just give me a blank line...and when i try with /np it shows that my winamp is stopped when im listening stuff in it...

would it be possible to display the album art in the id3tag or the image defined by folder.jpg instead of getting it from amazon. all my albums are tagged nicely. if they aren't, it means that i can't find the album art on amazon or on the rest of the internet, so in those cases i'd like to display my default avatar instead of some random image from amazon like it does now

the new release of the script (1.2.6) doesn't work for me in WMP11... it displays always as I have the music stoped....

I have a copy of Vista installed and WMP nor Winamp work with it. All they show is the normal "Now Playing:" text and shows 00:00/00:00 [] Stopped . I've tried messing around with things but it still doesn't seem to work. Is there a work-around for this, or is it currently not compatible with Vista?

Yea, it was weird, but when I tried it again later, after a restart or windows update, it started working all of a sudden Weird, but thanks

I get the same problem with it saying I have nothing playing.

Are we meant to disable the old MSN Messenger plugin that comes with MSN or not ?

The normal plugin works but I can't get this script to work.

Another small feature request:
Would you be able to add (similar to [ifartist]), an [ifplaying], because often I leave Windows Media Player open, and I have the song I'm playing shown in my personal message. Thus it stays "..... (Paused)" for ages, when I'd rather it showed the text of my personal message.

Otherwise, great script, very happy with it, exceptionally helpful in changing the default music information shown in the personal message.

I get this message : " The script has benn successfully imported and is now activated. " So I then go to my MSN and click the MSN  PLus icon in toolbar , scroll down... but no there is no trace of : Music Now Playing ??? I've done the same process for others and they all work great but this one dosen't at all although it seems to have been correctly installed ? Can anyone help me out ?[size=2] Thanks in advance !!!

I'd second this, if it's possible to read the information from the Tags that is, if not then atleast the Folder.jpg option.

If implemented, then another option setting to think about would be one where you can specify to only get this information from the tag, the folder, or Amazon (with a combination option where Tag-->Folder-->Amazon) for instance.

I have a suggestion to make for the /sendsong part of this script. Right now, the command will start a file transfer if the song is local or do nothing if the song is streaming. Instead, would it be possible to send a link of the stream?

There seems to be a problem with the parsing of lyrics... it doesn't break the lines up when it displays (but if I copy and paste into a new window/chat etc, they are line broken!)

Got a suggestion.

Sometimes when I listen to online radio stations, like di.fm

And in WLM it shows my now playing as

<song title - artist> (DI.FM <RANDOM ADVERTISEMENT THING FOR THE SITE>)

So maybe you could add like a 'blacklist' menu, where you can add text so if that text is in the song name, it removes it.

For example

Now Playing: Taco Bean Jerry

If you add Bean to the Blacklist.

Now Playing: Taco Jerry

When I have the bar in my psm it does not update(just stays at the beginning), and the send song to an app does not work.

Hey mate... I found what I think are 2 bugs... One in spanish translation ---> "Check Now" appears in english... what would be "Chequear ahora" (In exact translation) or "Buscar actualizaciones ahora"/"Buscar ahora" (In a better sound translation)...

And the second one... I that I clicked "Check Now" and then it appers a word in bold saying the is searching for it... but It doesn't disappear... keeps searching until I close the config box... never found nothing or never say there is not a new version... I have the most reacently WLM and MP!L release... (I though that can be a problem with my AVG Internet security firewall but now I don't think so...)

well you can forget the whole downloadfile crapo it dont work, it would appear patchou hasnt built it correctly all that stupid thing does is crash your messenger into oblivian so its worthless as a feature.

now i know that may sound a bit harsh on patchou however when you consider how long it took him to develope this latest version of plus you would atleast expect that all included features would work properly, i always thought that patchou used beta testers to look for these kinda problems which in that case means one of two things must have happened.

1) patchou chosen a group of poor quality testers who failed to detect this bug

2) the testers did find it butpatchou didnt get time to fix it in time for the release but kept it in hoping nobody would notice it.

the reason i am being so hard faced about this is because patchou made a big deal on the site about how scripts had to be fully functional and tested before he would add them to his script database yet it seems that a not fully functional version of plus has been released to a poor and unsuspecting public which to me is rather hipocritical of him.

Hi,   the script works great!!    nice fixes...

the thing that got me worried with the previous release was the album thing, it downloaded very few album images, now it works great,  except for one thing....

all of the album images stay in the "change your display picture" window....     every time a new album image is set  it stays in the images window....        in the previous version you got fewer album images but they didn't filled up that window...

any idea why?  any fix?   

i also noticed, that fewer images where saved in the cache\art  folder...

well just that,  its the best feature for me  the album display picture...

let us know when you fix it

Ever since I have installed this script, WinAmp started crashing occasionally while I am listening to a stream. I cannot say for sure that now Playing is doing anything to WinAmp, but it has only occured while MSN is running, and only since NP was installed.

the exact problem i get is i get a notification that now playing script needs updating to version 1.3.0 i get a window that lists the changes etc and has 2 buttons one marked "download" the other marked "disable updates" when i click the download button it freezes the program and causes messenger to crash according to this window these updates are downloaded by the downloadfile feature of messenger plus 4.20 so one would assume that is where the problem lies.

i am using the latest version of the mcafee internet security suite just incase that has any bearing on the issue i am using plus 4.20 and wlm 8.1 final on a windows xp pro with sp2 machine, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

i am absolutely certain that i am using 4.20 as on march 1st i downloaded the copy on the downloads page which claims to be version 4.20 after reading patchous release announcement and i got the 9 built in scripts that one the scripting contest which are only supposed to exist in 4.20 so i am therefore assuiming i have the latest version, i haven't had chance to play about with 4.20's settings yet so if i upgraded from a previous version would it use its old settings if so where do i find the downloadfile feature enable tickbox?

if it wouldnt be a settings issue then could patchou please fix the problem and release a patch?

Love what you've done with the current update, love that you got the Album Cover's working with the Folder Image. Now, if only there was a way to solve the issue of a million 'Folder' images in your DP Selection window, Lol.

i have a request (i dunno if anybody asked 4 it before): what about per-user settings? me and my brother share the same pc, but we have different contacts. i love album art feature, he doesn't. what actually happens is that everytime he logs in he finds that it's been enabled by me, and disables it; then, when i login, i have to re-update it--it's messy, and a bit annoying (i think it could be fixed just in a short time, but i don't have much spare time in these days). also, could the script reset automatically to the "old" personal image when no cover art is found and/or when music is stopped and/or when media player app (i use winamp, btw) is closed, and/or when logging out? i would really appreciate it.. thank you for the great script!!

&#9612; (Unicode 258C - Left Half Block) x2 for pause status

no, its with the script. I have tried this with the global hotkey and /np in the chat window. I don't even have these chars in my PSM

This script is great... but i have a problem... the status bar doesn't refresh, it doesn't change at all, neither the time elapsed... I try using winamp and wmp and it's the same... I dunno what i'm doing wrong

The PSM doesn't support colour codes. This is a limitation of Plus!, not the script.

This sure is a cool script, yet users will never cease to ask for more features, and I am no exception

First, I'll join with the people that request some sort of update functionality for the PSM, so the bar or the time elapsed will stay accurate. It was suggested to update once every minute, but that wouldn't nearly be enough for tracks who's length is only 2 minutes (quite common for filmtracks). I don't know the maximum frequency with which the PSM can be updated, but I think it should be possible to calculate the update frequency dynamically, depending on the length of the track (and in case of the bar, also depending on the length of the bar). Consider for example this pseudocode:

Afaik, the psm is updated every 3 seconds So if the song is longer than 30 seconds, it should be pretty accurate An error of +/- 1 second on the bar in the psm is surely negligible

hey im having MAJOUR problems with this....
i start my music and i comes up on the PSM as "- (stoped)"
and to get my song to apear i have to go to windows media player and unchek the windows live messanger plugin then chek it agen and it will show but it wont send the song to the other person or np or anthing the plug in wont work.

i had it working for about a week then just suddenly stoped.

i have removed the scriped then put it back in

can any one help? plz

I just recently installed the latest Messenger Plus! and was trying to figure out how to utilize the Now Playing 1.3.0 script that it came with.

While looking at this page: http://www.msgpluslive.net/scripts/view/58-Music-Now-Playing/

It stated that one needed to click on the Messenger Plus! logo. This didn't yield what I was looking for until I clicked on the Scripts icon in the message window instead.

Anyway, what I'm here for is this: Is it possible that in a future update that one could enable foobar2000 support? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for the heads up. It does what it's supposed to do for the most part, but songs with unicode tags yield broken text and files named with unicode characters will not load at all.

Using Winamp, neither is an issue, so it's probably just an API code limitation based on Winamp prior to unicode support?

I'm enjoying it very much, though since the beginning I experienced some problems with the Display Picture: apart from the (rare) cases the script could retrieve the album cover from the Internet, no custom cover was displayed as DP, no matter the name I assigned to the image file.

Apart from this malfunction, and unless I've misunderstood the script functions, the script only allows *one* cover per folder. It may be unusual, I don't know, but I have, for example, a big collection of MP3s directly recorded from my old 45RPM vinyl records: none of them have an "Album" defined in the ID3, and they all reside in the same "45RPM" folder; I *really* would have had the ability to assign a per-file cover...

So, I've examined the script. Please keep in mind that this is the very first time I examine or edit a javascript, so forgive me if my solution is rough

• When the GetAlbum function calls the Album_checkInDirForCover, it passes not only the dir parameter, but also album, file and artist (as received from the Main.js).
  
• In the album_checkInDirForCover, in the var items, corrected the single apices  enclosing the elements of the list into quotation marks (oddly enough, the element Folder already was enclosed in quotation marks, while Album and Cover had single apices. I don't know if in javascript the difference is relevant, but anyway the "Folder.jpg" worked, while the "Album.jpg" didn't.
  
• Again, converted the single apices to quotation marks in the var exts.
  
• Appended the additional parameters passed by the GetAlbum function (Album and Artist) to the list of elements for the var items.

Im using Jetaudio and Ive tried many things to make "What Im listening" work but everything is useless. I have Windows Live Messenger and Jetaudio basic version 6.2. Ive downloaded your software and in some way things like /play, /pause and that commands works to make the player work by msn but I cannot make the song appear on my personal message... Im pissed =( and I wanna know how... Im noob in this things and maybe stupid but it doesnt mean that I shouldnt get any help from any of you =).

I have got a problem,
Since i updated my iTunes Music now playing doesnt work for iTunes, works for all the other media programs. =[

"- Album service now checks for Album/cover with the extension jpg/png/gif in the songs folder for the album cover to show"

By default, Windows XP and Windows Media Player places an image called 'Folder.jpg' into each folder that contains a music album. Perhaps we could add support for this? Or is it already?

The file named "Folder.jpg" is already checked and read by NowPlaying; it searches also for files named Album.jpg/gif/png
My problem is that is that the "Folder.jpg" placeds by WMP is always the last one downloaded by the internet service; and NowPlaying assumes it is related to *all* the files in the folder. Therefore, if you have in the same folder files from different albums (or artists), NowPlaying always uses the "Folder.jpg".

Erm, if -dt- still remembers this script exists, could you possibly add foobar2000 support? I miss not being able to use this script.

There may have been something earlier in the thread, but i'm not going to look through it all =p

you can use one at the forum theres a thing in the settings. Click Misc settings and set up a short cut. I have Ctrl+Q. I use it for a thread in a forum. Works very cool and you can see it type without you touching the keyboard.......

You should actually include that it's already included in the new version of Messenger Plus! Live.

I almost went to download it, thinking it is a different script from the Now Playing already in the new version of MsgPlus.

You might want to try add Musicmatch Jukebox. It's a really nice music player, like Winamp, but unfortunately the only script I can find which support it has been discontinued.

If I may give you a piece of advice: read the thread before posting. The servers do not allow too frequent updates of you nickname and psm, and even if they would, nobody will actually keep watching your psm to see what you're listening.

Would it be possible to turn off the PSM and/or DP functionality via a command in the WLM conversation window? This would mean that the currently playing media information will not be shown in the PSM or the album art as your Display Picture, but your contacts will still be able to see your media information by typing !np etc.

Just tested with WMP and it works fine, the problem seems to be with itunes or how you parse the information from it,

I love this script! Started using it early this year.
Though I'd appreciate one add-on to it; XMPlay support. That little music player is my favorite and when I play music with it, MSN doesn't display any of the extra tags this script offers except basic ones like title and artist.

I'd be very glad if you could add XMPlay to the list of supported players.

yes i know its officially unsupported however in regard to this script it doesn't work well.

Whereas itunes+ script does it's tasks and they work mostly, but the developer is really busy and doesn't have the time to update and fix his script any more, hence why I'm 'switching' to now playing.... or would at least like to.

BTW just to add, you need to run foobar with the flag "/regsvr:comserver2" to start the com server.
So change your target path on your shortcut to something like

I noticed that if you play a song longer than 1 hour you time in the pm shows this i.e.: xxxx/1:17:51

Funny is that when the xxxx is greater than 1 hour it shows: 75:02/1:17:51 in stead of 1:15:02/1:17:51

You should have 'Apply' 'Ok' and 'Cancel' buttons, it's a lot more clear than 'save' which saves (and closes the configuration :\) and 'close' which actually cancel the changes.

Make it possible to support more than one player.

When cover art isn't found, instead of loading a picture, just use the one used on Messenger before the music started playing.

I am with u .Lou... Is very bad when you have to do a change and forget other and you don't have a apply button that don't close the window to fix that... and I wanna see Yahoo! music jukebox compatibility sometime...

Hi, I have translated it in Italian and also added a multi-account support (hope it works...), you only have to extract the main.js in %PROGRAMFILES%\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts\Now Playing\ overwriting (maybe after a backup) the existing one, and the lang file in the Languages subfolder...

Small problem;

When I have set the Now Playing Format to:
Now Playing: {artist} - {title} ({length})
it will return
Now Playing: - Bryan Tyler - The Preacher At Arrakeen (2:33) (Note the dash before the artist's name)

whereas if I would set the Now Playing Format to:
Now Playing: {title} ({length})
it will return
Now Playing: Bryan Tyler - The Preacher At Arrakeen (2:33)
as it's supposed to do with the first format. It might have something to do with me using foobar2000 and with the foo_winamp_spam.dll plugin.

Doesn't bother me since the problem is fixed by removing the artist tag, but I feel it's still something worth mentioning.

What player are you using? What player do you have the script set-up for?

I used to have this exact same issue when using the WinAmp setting for MediaMonkey, before a player script for MediaMonkey was developed.

EDIT: Duh, if I would have scrolled over, I would have seen you posted what player your using... duh me. So... disregard this post :\

Maybe it has something to do with the WinAmp Plugin/API for foobar as I believe that was the problem with MediaMonkey... iunno though, I'm not the best person to be asking about these kind of things. :\

I seem to have a problem with the now playing script, I can configure it just fine and everything, but for some reason it just won't show/work.

Nobody sees what I'm playing on their contact list.
So how exactly do I turn it on?
Using winamp 5.35 btw.

I'm using WLM version 8.0.0812.00 with Messenger plus! Live version 4.23.0.276. My iTunes is version 6.0.4.2.

I seem to have a problem with the script. I have set a customized PSM with tags of the artist, song title and length.

Everytime a song finish playing, when the second song starts, instead of displaying the customized PSM, it jumps back to the normal "What I'm Listening To" display.

Example:
instead of displaying "I'm @ iTunes : {artist} - {title} ({length})"
it shows in the format "{title} - {artist}".

It happens randomly; sometimes customized format, sometimes WLM's format.
Is there anyway I can solve this problem?

Why not a {genre} option, that shows... guess what the genre of the song? And also the ability of [if_genre]{genre}[/if_genre] so that when there is no genre entered it won't show anyting...

-That iTunes 7.3 is not supported with the {player} tag (might be only on vista). it shows up as Unknown
-The tag {listpos} not works with iTunes 7.3 (might be only on vista)
-The tag {samplerate is not supported with iTunes 7.3 (might be only on vista)
-The tag {filename} gives the wrong filename with iTunes 7.3 (might be only on vista)
-The comand !sendsong gives the wrong file with iTunes 7.3 (might be only on vista)

Great to see an update. Some of the new features look real interesting. Though, after the update, the 'Global Hotkey' no longer works in my IM Windows. This may be by design since theres already the "Now Playing" method aswell as "(!WAT)," or it could be a bug. Don't know. Anyway, I'm off to look into more of the features.

Cool, though I think my previous post concerning the "(2)"/"(5)" thing might have actually been something to do with FireFox, as I opened up the page in IE and it correctly loaded "(5)," stange. Anyway, you uploaded in a new post thus the problem doesn't come into effect. Though, a note for anyone reading, if you experience similar issues, try another browser, Lol.

i think theres something wrong with this script when i installed it ,it worked fine now every time i open winamp while signed in to WLM it freezes WLM and slows it down alot but mostly freezes. i made sure it was this script because when i disabled it then ran winamp it worked fine then when  i re enabled it same thing happened i could be wrong but i dont know.

I love this script, however, all of a sudden it stopped working. I like to have my PM as (artist) - (song). Obviously, that doesn't work anymore, it does the basic (song) - (artist) no matter what I do! I've tried disabling msn's "show what I'm playing" and the script, as well as the plugin for WMP, and nothing is fixed. Nothing works anymore, !sendsong, etc! I've tried winamp as well, nothing works.

I have even reinstalled messenger and plus, and no go.

I've had this script for a while and it hasn't been working. I figured that it's just me but I'm not exactly sure. I use Windows Media Player and I was wondering if anybody else had this problem or if anybody had any suggestions on what to do.

the script still doesn't support unicode (japanese) for WMP.. still appears as
'whatever artist' - '????'  <--- (japanese title)

I noticed, that, when I double click the song to play (no matter which one), the PM will go to how my PM is set to show the songs (artist-song), but then,  within a second, it'll reverse itself, and all functions are disabled.

Just to add to some more confusion:

My messenger has been having lots of locking up recently after enabling the display picture album art feature, I use WMP11 on vista ultimate x64

Task Manager shows no CPU or RAM spikes and rest of system is fully functional, messenger doesn't even crash it'll just become un-responsive for a minute or two.

So I tried to turn off the display picture feature, but the nowplaying menu wasn't present on the script button/menu list

I go into preferences and see nowplaying is active, so try to disable and re-enable the script. Part 1 goes fine, re-enabling gives this error.



I'm the only account, admin privileges, I do not have UAC active, so it's not permissions (Well yes and no I have it on silent mode, so it automatically accepts without warning me, but still enables the protective features in internet explorer, should I ever user it)

Seems very odd

Not sure for PSM display but for nowplaying in menu you could add rules like I have in my code a few pages back to display the media type icon.

I can't be bothered right now to type the code you'd need, it's too late and I need sleep but it'd be

WLM Build 8.5.1288.816
MPL version: 4.23.0.276
Now Player vesion 1.3.2

After installing WLM 8.5 I cant seem to get the script to work.
When checking the settings for Now Playing I see that it can't finde any Main Player. Not Winamp, not WMP, nothing.

Any suggestions??

No other scripts are active that should interfere and I have reinstalled everything a couple of time, no help.

Can I suggest that you add a feature to make it compatible with Y!MJ?

The script don't work anymore for me.. I start the "What I am listenting to", as useual, but it only shows the psm.. I have checked all the settings, and there is nothing wrong..

My settings don't even work correctly. Ofcourse, the name of the song shows, but, the order of the name and artist, album etc is default song - artist. My laptop does it fine, but my main computer doesn't work it right.

What's up with the strange script update?

It says version 1.3.4 is out, it downloads 1.3.0 and it keeps asking for the update..

I have a bug to report. Its a bit strange, and i have no idea why its happening.

I have the default player set to Winamp. I also play stations from LastFM from time to time (like right now). Winanp is currently stopped. I start playing something in LastFM, and it will display in the PSM, instead of Winamp. I close Winamp, and the PSM reverts to <enter a message blah blah> After switching tracks, the new song info is displayed again (but still with Winamp as the selected player).

When I actually do switch to the LastFM player, it shows something similar to Diagnostics - undefined or undefined - undefined, until the next track is played.

switching back to Winamp again, shows as nothing playing until the track changes in LastFM again.

Hey guys,

I ran into a bug after i updated from 1.3.0 or 1.3.3 (not sure) to version 1.3.4.
My hotkey no longer seems to work!
I've tried changing it as well as reinstalling the script but all to no avail.
It used to work without any problems at all before.
I use Winamp 5.5 for playing music and nothing else.

Im using:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
Windows Live Messenger 8.1
Messenger Plus Live 4.23.0.276

Are you by chance trying to use the Global Hotkey in a messenger window? If so, then that's your problem, it no longer works in Messenger Windows, you got the other two options anyway. If your trying another window like Notepad or Firefox for instance, then there might be a problem.

Certain you haven't installed or changed another program that might be using the same hotkey and causing a conflict?

Other then that, I have no ideas.

-dt-, what's new in 1.3.4? Unless the release notes from Markus' screencap is those of 1.3.4, I didn't get an update window even when checking for update from versions 1.3.2, so... *Shrugs*

I honestly want to keep using the Global Hotkey in a messenger window...so is there any change i can downgrade to 1.3.3 or 1.3.2?
Can i still download those somewhere?

If you want to go back to a version that still has this capability, then I believe you would need to go back to 1.3.0, I've been using 1.3.2 since -dt- released it on here as a 'Test' version or whatever and that's when I noticed the change. I even brought it up in this thread at the time.

A friend of mine was still able to send me the 1.3.0 version.

Hmm.. I didn't even know Now Playing has a global hotkey function. I always use Winamp Global Hotkeys to copy the song title.

To set Winamp Global Hotkeys:
Go to Winamp Preferences (Ctrl+P) -> (General Preferences ->) Global Hotkeys

and set a key for 'General: Copy title'

This works in every application or game I know (because it just copies the song title to the Windows clipboard. You have to paste it yourself).

If somebody spams you with !sendsong you send them the file multiple times. Could you limit to one send at all?

I use itunes, and when someone types !sendsong it sends them the wrong song, for example i was listening to hum haleluyah by fall out boy, and it send 04 blame canada from southpark soundtrack
EDIT: It doesnt work for anysong i try and send when using iTunes
EDIT2: It doesnt work with both the !np and the /sendsong commands

It noticed you were about to send shit so instead it sent one of your many other songs.

Every time I try and import the script WLM encounters a error and shuts off. Then when I open it again it encounters another error, then the second time Messenger Plus said it has disabled the script and I can use WLM normally.


I also use the mess patch.

I'd love to see this script supporting foobar2000

Have been having trouble on Vista Ultimate x64 with WMP.

Solution for me was to elevate a command prompt and regsvr32 the wmp9.dll file in the dlls directory, then restart WMP.

If this has been mentioned already... oh well, but I thought I'd let people know in case they are having problems.

Dunno if it has already been made, but if not, i made the Portuguese (Brazilian) translation to be included (or not ) in the next releases

well, i select an option: "Enable updatin your Personal message to your current song", and click save,it freezes, includig a whole messenger, everything that has anything with messenger freezes...
any help?
