O.P. How to become a translator?
I am Portuguese and I would like to become a translator, Plus! has already portuguese support and I believe there are already portuguese translator but I think that there can never be to many translators, to translate scripts and new versions of Plus! to come.
Anyone can tell me how to become one?

to be an official translator (those who translate the software and the web site), you did what you have to do: post a thread here and the official translators of Portuguese will reply. I don't assure you that they will add you in their team, maybe they don't need more people currently.

on the other hand, to translate scripts and other things, first you have to ask for permission to their respective authors. Then, just translate it. There aren't official translators for such matters. Also, this thread you created is helpful for you, because scripts developers may be looking for translators for their scripts. They'll contact you if they need you ;)

Hello Zeh

Thank you for being interested in joining our team. For now we are working well and don't need more members. But if we do, we'll contact you or start a new thread here.

Our work consists only on translating the software itself and the website (which is already done and has been put online today). Translating scripts is an independent task that anyone can do. As none of us has time to dedicate on keeping pace on a script evolution to provide a proper translation, you and everyone else are free to do it by themselves and submit it to the respective script creators.

Regards

Trust me, there can be too many. (H)

I'd say 4 translators for Messenger Plus! is plenty, more would be silly. More translators means more work for the language co-ordinator: Trying to get 10 people to hand in their work on time; having to deal with 10 different terms for the same feature and what not. Also, a team of 10 translators wouldn't leave the individual translators with the same sense of responsibility since they wouldn't feel that their work played a very big role in the translation as a whole.
No, I didn't search before
posting. Don't bother asking.

Start by reading all the posts in this thread, they contain extremely important info.

Then, read the official Translation Guidelines and the Messenger Plus! translators manual. This documentation was written for Messenger Plus!3, but all the same things still apply for Plus!Live.

And take notes of http://www.msgpluslive.net/help/faq/translation/#lang-add.

After that, start translating Messenger Plus! (the language files are located in the Languages subdirectory where you installed Plus!Live) using the Lng_Default.ini file as your starting point.

When you're finished and you have tested the translation for ampersand collisions, too long lines, etc!, you can make a new thread in this Translation subforum and attach your translation to your post so people can download, use and test it.

If enough people use the translation, it may be included in the official setup.

--------------------------------------------------

For translating the website, the same rules and notes apply. Only difference is that you need to have access to the private translation server. That access can only be given by Patchou himself.

But start by translating Messenger Plus! itself, that would already be days and days of work. If the translation is a success you can proceed in contacting Patchou about the website.

--------------------------------------------------

;)

thousands and thousands... To give you an idea: languages with fewer users than 10,000 have been dropped in the past.

(also dialect aren't included)

Statistics of use (2004): http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=30412
Statistics of use (2005): http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=46734

EDIT: blah at Weyzza :p

The last time I checked it was 10k users.

http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=46...d=484551#pid484551
Greek and Kurdish were not included in Plus! Live.

http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=30...d=296864#pid296864
Some languages were not included in the next version.

Just submit your decent work to Patchou and he will have the statistics how many people use your translation over a period of time.
If your translation is not included in the installer, don't be sad.
You can always submit your work here and people will be able to download it :)
