Ey all

I recently started using MSN 8.0, and therefore also the new MSN plus live.
But i've noticed some kind of bug in the new Messenger Plus Live when using tabs:

Whenever lets say person A is showing in the taskbar (because i talked last to him/her) and person B says something, it doesn't change from person A to person B in the taskbar.
By this i mean that Person A is flashing orange in the taskbar, yet when i click it on it it's somebody else talking to me.

On msn 7.5 + Messenger Plus the name of the person in the taskbar would change to the one who said something, before flashing orange.

Any feedback on this? I find it very irritating

edit: i see CookieRevised saying that it's expected behavior because patchou didnt want the tabs to switch automatically.

But I'd just like the right name to shop in the taskbar, not only so i know who's talking, but also so it'll go to the right person when i click on it so i can reply right away...

You could use a script to simulate the old beheviour. Though the script has his limitations too:

Since it isn't a real bug, it isn't something which needs to be "fixed".

It is done like this by design (and for some reasons)...

What you ask for is exactly automatically switching of tabs. If this was done it would be very annoying since tabs would also switch when you're in the middle of writing a message and when somebody else sends you a message. In other words, this wont be implemented...

What can be done is changing the caption of the taskbar button, and that is what the script, linked above, does.

I've NEVER had a tab switch on me while i was writing.
Seriously, it didn't happen.

Anyway, then just make it change when no conversation is focussed?

I dont see why it was changed, it was perfectly fine on the old Msg+...
The "it'd switch tab automatically" is just BS, i'll make a video if you dont wanna believe me..

No it wasn't! There were bugs with it and many people found the auto-switching very annoying.

As you can read in several posts (including the one where you downloaded that script from), it is a proof of concept. But even as a POC it works as intended with all versions of Messenger.

I never said it switches tabs automatically in Plus! Live. However, in Plus! 3 there was an option to auto-switch the tabs. But that didn't worked 100% in all cases.

What? you reply in every tabthread that it was changed because the tabs were switching automatically in plus!3..!

But this is the whole thing: it never switched to another tab automatically when you were reading something else, and i can prove it. There was never a reason to have this "normal behaviour"

The script that I've been using for this has stopped working with the new MsgPlus.

Well, I copied only 3 of cookie's lines to my own code to achieve this functionality, so my script doesn't have Internationalization, script menu handling, format code removal, etc. It simply changes taskbar name to the person's who last messaged you. For group chats, it only shows 1 of the participants' name but I hope that's good enough for now.
