O.P. Windows Xp Home edition stuck at startup screen
Hi ya, been a long time since i posted. My computer keeps getting stuck at the windows is starting up screen right before the user screen comes up. I think it's due to an extra not used user named administrator I've tried to delete the user but the user does not come up in the list in Control Panel> Users . Thanks for the help

try this: Start>Run and type "control userpasswords2" (without the " ) this is a more advanced users screen . Hope this helps.

I think it's impossible to delete the "Administrator" user. You might need that account if your computer gets screwed up (or you forget your other passwords) and you can't log on.
wrong. The Administrator account is just one account more. What does it has the powers it has is its beloning to the Administrators group that has a lot of rights (directives) and permissions. User "Guest" can be an admin if you just add it to the Administrators group. With all this I mean that a user who has the needed rights to delete accounts (ie: a user in the administrators group) can delete the administrator account, however that's not recommended in any way.

I tried that, except when I go remove to the user named "Administrator" it has an error and says the user cannot be removed

I'm not losing all my stuff just to format over this . The problem also is that when it starts up this administrator log in thing comes up and if it doesn't have an error it don't work if it does it do work... Although I can just leave it at the start up screen and it goes to the screen saver and then when i move the mouse it goes to the user list screen

Uhh... if you say so...

Yeah, I know that any user can be given admin permissions, but I thought that the admin with the username "Administrator" was built-in and "special."

The 2 quotes above seem to conflict with each other...
Hmm... check this out: http://www.winnetmag.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/40721/40721.html
quote: Administrator Account Basics
Every Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 computer on your network, except for the domain controllers (DCs), has a local account named Administrator. Every domain also has an Administrator account. To make sure you don't lock yourself out of your computers or your domain, Microsoft set some limits on the built-in Administrator account: You can't delete it, disable it, or lock it out (even if you apply an account lockout policy, that policy doesn't apply to the Administrator account).
