RE: 2 messengers at the same time?
Lopardo, I just did everything in cookie's post and it doesn't work... however there are a few things I didn't find...
I have Outlook 2003 and the option relating to windows messenger isn't there under the "other" tab.

Also, the following directories don't exist in my registry:
 HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Run
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Load

I don't have Outlook 2003 so I can't check that. It doesn't matter if you don't have those keys in your registry. But what is your problem?

If you read Cookie's post carefully, it says that not all need to be present. Other versions of Windows do have that key, so for others, they might be needed.

Did you even bother reading the thread/post to where Sunshine, Lopardo and Tochjo linked????
quote: using these methods will cripple other parts of the OS; MSN Messenger and some Plus!-plugins will not work 100% anymore (Remote assistance, Whiteboard, Song2Nick-plugin, etc...)

I strongly suggest you to read that post before posting this renaming-suggestion again
And if you do suggest this renaming-method to someone, then clearly state that this method will break the functionality of some features of MSN Messenger, and also of some (popular) Plus! plugins. And that it also will cause problems in Outlook(Express) and possible other Windows Programs....

RE: 2 messengers at the same time?
i read the post, however and it has not disabled remote assistance, i dun use whiteboard or song2nick and the all my plugs work fine, i also use outlook express and it has no problems viewing emails which is the only thing i use it for, and i haven't noticed ne other conflicts with ne other windows program but if i find ne conflict i will do it the unlazy way, but for now, this remains as MY way altho i'm sure urs is reli good too

My problem is that windows messenger still runs at startup

RE: 2 messengers at the same time?
Well, if you already checked Cookie's post, then I'd suggest to check what programs are autostarting with Windows with Autoruns. Go to the View menu and check "Show services".
