O.P. Weird spider in my garden
We just found this spider in my garden:
I'm not sure about the species of this spider, but I'm sure it's an araneus (it could be quadratus, alsine or diadematus).
It's not depicted, but it has a 2mm stinger.
Does somebody know about it? Origin, danger, etc?

it also depends on where you live. u live in europe, which i think there are not many dangerous spiders around. but i have to say, a 2cm spider might be poisonous

Well, it's not really huge, but thinking that I life in a rather urban site and that the biggest spider I had ever seen around here was an usual 7mm harmless brown spider, this one is surprising for me.
I'm interested in knowing about it. If there isn't any inconvenience in asking your father, do it! Thanks

Nah, most tarantulas aren't poisonous at all. The strangest thing about this one is the colour. Most Internet says they aren't, but I don't really know.

RE: Weird spider in my garden
basing it on it markings, it looks like Araneus diadematus (possibly a female with the size of the abdomen).Anyways its referred to as the Garden Spider or cross spider. This spider is common in woodlands, heathlands and gardens although human activity in gardens discourages them.

Hm, yes, what I thought: an Araneus Diadematus (Garden cross-spider) But it's slightly larger than reported to be (maximal female size is 18mm. and this one is like 21mm. Pregnant, for sure, but still too big.
And the shape of the abdomen made me doubt, since diadematus are rounder. In this it's more similar to quadratus. Who knows...
Anyway, very very rare around here.

RE: Weird spider in my garden
mutation *eight legged freaks* might not be cross species as they are more likely to eat each other up
