Well you see, I have a legit copy of windows, but the CD key is not valid anymore bcz of the 4 activiations so I got MCE 2005 for the hell of it .

How do I check if it's genuine or not I cant find it!

open my computer and under help it says is my copy of windows genuine

I have a feeling that there is a bug in their tool.

Bah my copy was only available to be validated once, rendering it gay. I had to reformat and im using a dodgey key..

Best thing to do is buy a new computer with XP on them you don't have the hassle with the key.

Same here Last time (about a month ago) i did download the anti spyware thingy and i also got the some updates 2 months ago. Now to update i need to open ie which i hate cause i love firefox now. Also the sp2 shield thingy (security center) also doesnt show the red shield in my sys tray for win updates but shows a red shield every 18 hours for av updates

EDIT: Read some more posts. Here it aint asking me to activate windows. Prolly cause we have the volume edition sn. I mean the whole company here got win xp together. So ppl got xp even for their homes. U know the just ordered a few extra copies and my dad was one of the ppl who bought it there

If you had the disk with another pc or something, then there is a possibility that its on the case on that pc. Check... or its in a book?

I don't get this all of a sudden attempt to prevent piracy .
