RE: Microsoft Forces SP2 download
So you think they should leave it as it is. Millions have SP2 but millions of others either don't even use Windows Update or they ignore the SP2 install.
Would you rather have everyone who uses XP (and updates it) to have their computers protected, or would you prefer they get infected with viruses which a) send out that spam you get in your inbox or b) get infected with botnet trojans that allow for hundreds (thousands) of infected drones to get together and DDoS people's internet connections and websites?
The previous sentence is false. The following sentence is true.

They have Australia listed in the menu, but that list might contain every country. You'll probably have to go further into the ordering process to find out if you can get it.
They ship to Australia.
I have about ~100 of the update CD's which we usually hand out to clients after we install SP2 on their machines..
Like has been mentioned. Do you want to constantly be receiving old viruses and things in your email inbox because someone cant be assed to update? I know I don't want to because I already receive enough as it is.

Exactly. I disabled the firewall, the security alerts (Norton AV/IS does that for me now), I patched tcp.sys to allow more connections. Nothing is different..

RE: Microsoft Forces SP2 download
I have had SP2 for about a month now and its really no big deal..... but its gonna be a real bitch for all of the people who are on dial up connections or have download limits.
(Yes i realised that it's possible to get the CD but sum people may not order until close to the d/l date and then they dont have much choice but to d/l)

Like a firewall, who needs one? If you go to good sites (not warez, porn or other illegal sites) you will be fine.
Did you not hear about the 'safe' web sites being infected with a trojan, and in turn infecting anybody who visited them who was not patched, a while back because the hosting servers were not patched. In short, restricting yourself to 'good sites' is not a guarantee of protection.

Microsoft to start fixing there problems instead of covering them up but what makes me mad is now there is no choice in whether you want this or not.
You want choice? Turn off automatic updates, or set it to download but not install and then choose 'custom install' to pick and choose what you want. Problem solved.

RE: Microsoft Forces SP2 download
I'm glad Microsoft is doing this. I still haven't installed SP2 because everytime I try to do it I get problems with my svchost that keeps pushing my cpu usage at 100% . Guess I should spend some time soon looking again for an answer.
