RE: XBOX 360 VS PS3
I wouldn't call 360 better as Sony has a whole year before they release the final system. They could make theirs alot stronger by then.

RE: XBOX 360 VS PS3
It seems they fail to actually use the figures for overall system performance, which are:
Xbox 360 - 1 TFLOP
PS3 - 2 TFLOPS
Xbox is better than PS2 because it's two years newer.
As for the Xbox 360's better all-round CPU, that is the problem: games consolse do FP more than anything else (graphics, sound, physics), so a more specialised solution (Cell) will be more suited.

RE: XBOX 360 VS PS3
Cell = Designed for Supercomputers
XBOX 360 CPU = Designed for the Macintosh
Cell = 8 Threads?
XBOX 360 CPU = 6 Threads
As things stand the Cell CPU is by far a more capable Gaming System chip.
I myself wil be buying a XBOX 360 as and when Halo3 arrives and maybe one or two other games but my main machine will be a PS3. I like being able to play my PS1 games on the PS2 & i'll continue liking playing PS1 & 2 games on the PS3.

i agree with you the PS3 has that as an advantage, X BOX 360 could have better graffics and Perfomence but i that are limited the good games that come out and most people preffer to keep playing old games in one single sistem

RE: XBOX 360 VS PS3
I doubt XBox 360 will have better graphics: the RSX GPU in PS3 is more powerful than the entire XBox 360. However, most home users won't nitoce the difference, except on ultra-large HDTVs. And how many people have got even small HDTVs?
I believe, soon, the level of graphics performance will become less important, and what people do with it more important (which is kinda already true, but not by much).
Thing is, no matter how good the performance is, if the graphics engine in the game isn't up to the job, it won't help sell consoles.

yeah
oh and raceprouk your wrong about the Floating point
Most rendering and graphics are Fixed Point
the only thing that actually uses floating points, in games is the AI, and if using SM3.0 the trees and foliage in a few games

Actually ALOT of things in games now use floating points - as you said things like trees and foilage but running water, shadows, ray tracing and even rendering.

O.P. RE: XBOX 360 VS PS3
aye.. but you forget one thing
these use the GPU to do, not the Cell processor
these require Floating points on the gpu within the Pixel Pipeline
what MS is saying is that Floating points on the Cell processor are lacking
so really in reality, the PS3 will still be a good console. as they aren't taking the RSX into consideration
