RE: Show me as..
Well if you made a feature in plus that would let people send you certain information to their end and plus would set that contact to a certain status. though both would have to have this new version but i see it possible that way.

RE: Show me as..
I know itw not possible, but i like it, and i don't think it would be that confusing
A status next to the gleam could be the status you're appearing to your contact, and the status on their dp could the the status they are appearing to you
You could also have different images so it wouldn't be that bad

RE: Show me as..
Here I'll break it down for you. You both have the same version of Plus! and in this feature it lets you send information that Plus! will read differently. When my Plus! sends you information that says set me to "Away" or "Busy" or something then your Plus! will set me on your contact list to whatever is specified..get it?

RE: Show me as..
Well this is not possible by protocol. When changing status, it does not send the information directly to the contact, it goes to the messenger server then to your contact. But in the case of changing status, it sends it to all your online contacts. This is what the packet looks like:
code: >>> CHG 13 NLN 0\r\n
<<< CHG 13 NLN 0\r\n
>>> = what is sent to the server
<<< = what is recieved by the server
13 = the transaction id
CHG = Status Change Identifyer
NLN = Online Status Identifyer
As you can see it is a global message, it does not define any contact specifically so again i say it would be impossible.
And can understand what you mean by sending information directly to plus, just as if custom sounds, and that would change the status by faking a packet, such as:
code: <<< NLN BSY you@passport.com This Is My FriendlyName 268435492\r\n
In theory, i guess it could work, the proxy method plus uses i guess could do it

Hello Michael,
Thank you for writing to MSN Messenger Technical Support.
My name is Jocelyn and I will be assisting you. Upon reading your e-mail, you want to know if it possible to appear in different status to your contacts.
Unfortunately, that feature, is not currently available with MSN Messenger. This is a good idea and will greatly improve our service. I’m including this in the list of feature request so that the Product Team can evaluate this for the next release.
Should you have another inquiry about MSN Messenger, please do not hesitate to write back and we will be glad to assist you.

or you could just use MSG commands to send msg's with custom headers and then modify the status in the msn contact list.

Must be possible, doesn't (excuse my language) Yahoo do it! maybe it's different for msn, but then yahoo's version is just a way of blocking anyways. so Saralk's idea is the right, just block'em. besides if you don't wanna talk to certain peeps, why they on your list???

No it is not, like said before... We're talking about the MSN network, not any other network; each network is different and has his own protocol, settings, possebilities, impossebilities, etc...
It isn't because a boat can float on water that a truck can, yet both are transport vehicles...
(lol, crappy analogy, but blah...)
