Just press the first letter of the name of the contact, or his email, or his custom names (depending on what you use)...

Make it a habbit of renaming each contact you add.
Also, making custom names for the entire list doesn't take hours at all, even if you have 300 of them; simply learn to use your mouse and keyboard. IT also is only a one time action, afterwards, you don't have to do it again. And the benefits are very big if you do.

btw, for those who didn't knew it yet, by using (!N) in the custom name, you add the original name of the contact also. Or you can select the option "Attach the original name" in the Plus! Preferences > Contact List > Custom Names.
See

and
http://www.msgplus.net/help_cmdtag.php
If you make it a habbit of renaming each contact in the style "John - (!N)" then it is *beep* easy to find someone.
PS: If you don't know the real name of the contact, use the nickname.

All in all, searching for contacts is very easy and I always find the one I'm looking for in max 3 secs (and I have +250 contacts). It all comes down to using mouse and keyboard and how you organise your contacts.
