I have tried every way of getting rid of it (even disabling automatic start up in the options menu).
If you disable it from the options it goes off the msconfig list

In the window that keeps opening click;
Tools >> Options >> General >> then untick Open Messenger Main Window When Messenger Starts.
This will let messenger start up when you turn your PC on, but will stop that main window (contact list window) from showing up each time it signs in on your startup.
stiggla wanted to the MSNM window "not to startup at all", not just "not show up"
Just uninstall msn, restart it then goto start > run > type "msconfig" without the quotes
Check if MSNM is still in the start up. If it is, uncheck it. If it isnt just close the program (msconfig ie) and then reboot (if you may please. Not necessary tho
)
Reinstall msn when your pc starts and then goto options and check if the option to "load msn messenger when windows loads" is unticked. If it is then untick it.
Reboot to check if it worked
