I have some AVIs compressed with XVID. The sound plays fine, but the picture just freezes on whatever frame the seeker bar selects. I've Googled this problem and downloaded a tool that supposedly fixes the problem, but it didn't work.
Any ideas?
Edit: This problem also occurs on my housemate's laptop, who I got the vids off.
Edit 2: Changed title to reflect actual problem.

RE: DivX
have you tried the VLC player?
do you have the necessary codecs? it seems like a codec issue to me.

I can play other XVID movies, no problem: I have the latest XVID codecs. I haven't tried VLC, but I have tried WinAmp, and I get the same thing.

RE: XviD
I think the key to the problem is buffering, I tend to when in opens up in WMP, press stop, wait abit. Then play.

O.P. RE: XviD
It's not a laptop, it's a desktop. And it's specced enough to run XviD compressed files, as I have other XviDs that don't suffer from the same problem.
I'll see if it's the buffering thing.
Edit: I'll then try Reaper's idea if I need to.

RE: XviD
i had a similar problem. i found out that by totally removing the codec, then resinstalling a fresh copy, whether it be from a codec pack or not made it work.
