I may just have missed something, but doesn't MP!L make a toast anyway when a contact starts talking to you?  Also, is it possible to turn off some of the features of this script?

well, MP!L makes a toast when someone writes you something, not when someone opens a convo with you on his/her computer and you can't turn off some features at least for this version.

thanks.  another point though:  it keeps telling me that people are starting convos with me, but then they don't say anything.  I know it could be that they decide against writing anything, but I doubt that this would happen that often.  a possible problem might be that i am using the DPget script, which automatically downloads contacts display pics.  dunno if that has anything to do with it, but it might.  has anyone got any ideas why it might be giving me false alerts?

Might be the sessions that messenger opens even when nobody has opened your window. Like when on the user's contact list your display image is loaded.

so does that mean this script isn't 100% useful, or is there anything i can change?

Like CookieRevised said and other guys, it's impossible to make a 100% convo notifier on Live Messenger. It doesn't work the same way it used to work on Messenger 7.5.

the good old days...  oh well, i guess i'll just have to be satisfied with it as it is.  ur link mentions a patch that tells you when someone is typing a message - is that still around and available for WLM?

However, now you know the limitations, you know what to expect.

It never worked in 7.5 either. The way open convo window notifiers relied upon has been changed long before that. In fact the last time they worked reliable was a few years back before messenger 7.0...

There is no patch to tell when someone is typing a message since that has already always been build into messenger.

There is however a patch to disable your messenger to send out the "you are typing a message" command to your contacts.

i see.  but wouldn't it be handy if u got a toast when someone started to type a message to u?  i think it would, but maybe i'm unique
