Hi can anyone help me aout about the Bt Voyager 105 modem, using AOL 9, fresh install of Win XP, SP2.

Everytime I boot up my PC it takes ages for the DSL light to stop flashing (about half hour) then I can log on to AOL with a limited connectivity message appear.

I have installed quite a fe of these modems and AOL but never came across this problem.  I have an idea that may be the phone socket may be a fault but i need advice.

I know that if the cable going from your phone line to your modem is too long (over 10 metres I think) then it can cause problems.
Could this be a problem? Also, you might just be in a bad area for the service.

Plus, as Max says, you might be able to do better with a different ISP :P

I wouldnt personally have AOL as an ISP its a company im dealing with has go this problem.

They had this problem since January.  I noticed that the RJ11 telephone cable is rather long, also  I noticed that they got a Cordless phone with an answering machine attached to the filter.  Could that cause a problem too?  The phone works fine.

I have installed all the drivers correctly and I dont think the problem is their computer.  Its a complete reinstall of Win XP home.

If I pulled the filter out of the master socket I noticed that sometimes the DSL light stays solid and everything is working fine.  But i do get a limited connectivity message.  I wonder if it would be the phone socket?

Does the limited connectivity have any effect on the broadband working? Because most of the time it just says that because AOL is being annoying. You can disable the warnings by right-clicking on the icon (probably called AOL Broadband or something similar) in the Network Connections window and selection Properties and unchecking 'Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity'

Sorry I can't really helpl about anything else :P

p.s., there's an edit button, try not to double post ;)

No probs.

The limited connectivity doesnt affect the internet and Email.  But if i restarted the computer the dsl will just flash for about half hour or so and I cant log on to AOL until the light goes solid.

It is a awkward one, i never came across this before.

I think it might be the length of the cable or just a crappy connection to your area.
Normally it might take a few seconds or maybe minutes, but half an hour is a long time :S

Thanks for your help.  I will fit a small length telephone cable and advise them to get the phone socket checked out just incase.

I do think it may be the phone line connection aswell, just wanted a second opinion.

Saying AOL just says it all.

Thanks!!!
