Well, what you could do is have the Windows Live Messenger system tray icon on hide (right click the taskbar > properties, then press "Customize" next to where it says "hide inactive icons", where it says "Windows Live Messenger" press the dropdown box and choose "always hide".

That's the only way I can think of, other than that there's nothing.

CookieRevised created a script to remove the icon from the system tray however it will not work to allow you to add the icon back so its not really possible.

What Traxor described is a way to hide the icon (or any other icon in your system tray for that matter) by the use of Windows' own taskbar cleanup settings.

perfectly possible. See below...

The code snippets do allow for it though (but the script is so basic that I didn't included the searching for the proper icons. In other words, an icon will be placed back, but it is the one from the hidden main window. This will only happen when the user is signed out though, otherwise, the proper icon will be placed back).

kooldudeVsME, for further questions related to this request, see the thread "How to write code that hides system tray icon" as what is requested there is exactly the same as what you want (always search forums first ;))...

So, see "CookieRevised's reply to Help: How to write code that hides system tray icon"
