There are viewers that can display documents made by Microsoft Office; you can download them from http://www.microsoft.com/office/000/viewers.asp. However, for each program you seem to have to install a different viewer.
There are also third party viewers, which you can find by using Google

OpenOffice.org
It displays and edits and creates them as well.

Each one of these, however, need to be ran seperately to read/edit the document. HOWEVER, they are installed as a package, and they blend well together (you can start a new document of any kind from any of the included programs and it automatically launches the program that is needed.)

... Microsoft Office?
The previous sentence is false. The following sentence is true.

It's not free, but http://www.myriadviewer.com/ looks just the ticket.
Although I would also recommend the free office viewers, if you install each one you only have to double click the file you want to open.

Not actually. It's all in one program, and it changes itself for different uses (word processing, spreadsheets, etc).
