Hello everyone,

as the latest version of Messenger Plus! seems to run smoothly for most people, I'm taking a break (I'm sure you noticed). However, "taking a break" also means "getting bored" after a week so I'm planning to start working on Plus! 2.20 soon. My goal for this version is:

• Completely redesign the Contact Manager
  
• Reorganize the Preferences
  
• Add some options to the existing features to make them more customizable

In order to achieve all this, I need your input. Please tell me what features you think should be improved and how it could be improved. Don't submit new features such as "signon offline" or "detect when people blocked me" because I won't do it. Messenger Plus! is enjoyed by millions of people and now is the time to add more customization, more advanced options, ...

I'm looking forward to see your suggestions. If you suggested something in the past weeks and I replied "good idea", please, repost again in this thread to be sure I didn't forgot about it .

Well...............................

1. Log Viewer?

2. A complete RTL version with mirrored dialogs! Okay maybe not.

3. As Will mentioned, POP3 mail notifications.

5. Maybe an option to not play sounds for Sound Commands while Winamp is playing a song or something?

6. More spacing before and after Action messages and AutoAway messages. Also, it would be nice if you added an asterisk "*" before Action messages.

7. Don't send the "User is typing" notification, if the first character typed in the message editbox is a slash "/" (to prevent useless network traffic ).

8. A "ping" feature to detect lags. I'll elaborate:


When the user types /ping, Client A sends something like:

     SOME_SPECIAL_CHAR  PING  SECONDS_SINCE_JAN_1970

The special character is used to identify the message as a PING request.... like with colors or any other feature of Plus! that requires compatibility. The number of seconds passed since midnight of January 1st 1970, is used for calculating the time passed since Client A sent the PING request, and until it recieved a PONG, or a "PING reply", from Client B. This is the best method of lag calculations, as it conveniently prevents mixing up of a few PING requests.

When Client B receives this message (Client B must not reply to more than a few PING requests in a certain number of seconds, to prevent flooding!), it sends back something like this:

     SOME_SPECIAL_CHAR  PONG  SAME_NUMBER_AS_RECEIVED

The special character could be the same one as in the PING request. The number Client B sends in the reply must be the same number as received from Client A, so it could make a correct lag calculation.

I find this a very useful feature, and quite easy to implement.......
The problem is the compatibility with version 2.10 and older..............

Perhaps something similar to the (!WAT) command for Windows Media Player.  I use WMP alot more than WinAmp.

1. A popup that reminds users how to get out of Boss Protection and Personalised Away.

2. The log viewer and encrypted logs, pop3 popups, the action messages suggestion from sock, and about the "User is typing..." notification I find it useful, so I know when the other person is writing and I can wait to see what he writes...

Note that I didn't suggest to stop sending "User is typing" notifications completely; but when the Contact types a slash "/" in the beginning of their message, they might not be writing a message for you (maybe they're typing "/appearoffline" or something like that) - so you might be waiting for nothing....... and I don't like that possibility.

6. Activate Update Feature
7. Self-Triggered Updating (For users who like to get updates right when they come out )
8. News With In Program (Heh, I dont know C++ but I do know how to do this with VB )
9. New Smilies that ONLY users running Plus! Will Detect (I Have been told that this is a feature that a lot of people have requested)
10. Advanced Preferances for Sound Commands (Like, Disabling Certain Ones, For those who get offended by one of them )
