RE: Can't connect to websites
Or we could just wait until we have enough information to actually figure out what's wrong instead of posting shit.

RE: Can't connect to websites
try in safe mode and with no security suite to see if some software is blocking it...

RE: Can't connect to websites
Just a question: when you installed Firefox, did you import settings from Internet Explorer?

RE: Can't connect to websites
My money is on it being Norton. Restarting in safe mode is unlikely to work as networking drivers will be unavailable.
Try uninstalling Norton if the patch doesn't work. If it doesn't help, reinstall Norton.
Edit: Further to the above, try entering a link such as http://64.233.183.103/. This should give you Google. If it does, then you know DNS is the problem.

That of course depends if said friend is using a router or not. If they're using a USB/PCI ADSL modem then they're stuff - networking means Ethernet only. Of course, if they are using Ethernet and a router, that adds a whole other factor to the problem.

No. I didn't because I just wanted to test the basic default Firefox; which I guess was the right thing to do, seeing as I wanted it nothing to do with IE, as that doesn't work.

They are using a broadband modem, connected by ethernet.

There isn't a router, I don't think, but I tried disconnecting the modem already. The internet connection is fine.
