Hey, my mother is driving me nuts since she's discovered the "wonders" of speaking through a microphone to random people across the world...

Since we share a connection, it's not letting me work without having to wait a century for things to load.

So, I was wondering if there's a way to set a speed limit for her computer.


Please don't suggest:
* Taking the microphone away. I'm not against her stupid chats.
* Scaring her with stupid DOS programs. She's only going to bug me more.

Give yourself more bandwith than her , then yours will be faster.

Buy a new router that lets you set bandwidth limits for each IP?

Or are you looking for a program you can install on her PC?

A router costs money.

Though I hadn't thought of installing a program on her computer. Are there any programs like that, anyway?

I can only find programs that "raise" your speed ().

I have no idea if it's good or not, but it looks like it might do what you want.

DU Super Controler does the job very well... but I can't find the free version I used to have...

Limiting bandwidth isn't going to work -- at least not for her, if the culprit is voice conversations.  If there isn't enough bandwidth, her conversations will no longer work and I imagine she will complain.

What software does she use for that?  Typically, voice doesn't require much bandwidth, which makes me wonder if that is even the problem...  How fast is the shared connection?

Voice call quality can adapt to available bandwidth. So, if you have a 100000/100000 kbps connection, the voice might use 200/200 kbps, but if you only have a 100/100 kbps connection, then the voice will make do using 90/90 kbps only.

Also, things taking a century to load might be caused not by having no download bandwidth left, but only no upload bandwith left, and just freeing up a small amount is all that is needed.
