Well everything has been said before already..
Same problem, wake up one day and Live Messenger / MSN does not work for any reason with error 80072efd, been trying to fix it in many ways and nothing helped:
- reinstalled many times.
- checked PC for spyware / viruses
- tried different software (Trillian)
- tried older versions
- tried all the codes for "run" (example: regsvr32 wintrust.dll etc.)
- tried simple things like putting router / modem to default, reconnected all wires, kept it switched off for the night.
- cleared all history / cache / cookies in IE
- checked all the settings in IE like said in many forums
- checked all the settings in MSN like said in many forums
- reinstalled IE
- enabled in the Windows XP firewall, dont have other firewalls
- even tried to create a new account, that didnt work
- system restore didnt help

Hm, I really hope this problem will be fixed, I had MSN for about 7 years now. The web MSN works fine, but isnt even close to been good. I can log into the hotmail which my MSN was registered to. Skype and ICQ work fine. Internet works perfect.

I will be looking forward for some advice. Thank u very much in advance!

Is your Date and time correct? That can cause random errors if it isnt..

Oh, i have been to that link many times. Nope, unfortunetly nothing helps from there.

I have the latest version of Windows Live Messenger  8.1

I have tried version 8.0, also tried MSN 7, MSN 7,5 and the standart Windows Messenger. None of them work

Hmm.. according to this post [Sunshine's reply to [split] error code 80072efd] There could be a problem with the server...

Im sure there is a program that lets you connect to a different server.. If i find it i will edit this post..

Hi, thx for the reply. The link u adviced is sort of the same as  http://www.imzers.com/msn/solve/error-code-80072efd  So i have tried those solutions already. Nothing worked.

Then i tried to sign in with my friends account and it did NOT work.

And weird thing, for example the link to change the password for MSN does not work on my pc  https://login.passport.com/ChangePW.srf

Its like my IP if forbidden to enter any msn things or something.

PS I know hope dies last but its starting to die very soon   I read on some forum one guy tried formatting his pc and it didnt help him.

Ok, so i run this software. First it said (Currently Using) next to each host name. Then i start testing it manually, so finally i find a server where it says its able to connect to. What should i do next? Cuz it still doesnt log into WLM, even after I click on the "Use this server" so the (Currently Using) tag is only for that working server. Sould i put it somewhere in options or?

Here is the info of the working server:

Host name: baym-cs16.msgr.hotmail.com
IP Address: 207.46.106.16
Port: 1863

Sry but i have to say OMFG!...

I downloaded another anti-virus, to scan again.... so it was scanning for 2 hours and at 94% my PC overheats and restarts itself..... i was rly thinking of throwing it out the window cuz i was sure id have to scan again... Had no hope left, was so fed up. Already started thinking bout Linux.. but then it starts windows and LOGS IN TO MSN!!! 12 hours i spent sitting in front of it fixing it =) And the overheating "helped".

Anyways thanks to everybody who helped! And i hope it will keep on working.

PS I will remember the code 70072efd forever now =D
