I'm planning on going on a 14hour roundtrip plane ride (first plane ride ) next month.

I'm still going to bring my TV shows like House, heroes etc....for my mom :p

Yeah, and all the border guards don't have enough trouble searching people. Does anybody truly believe they have time for this kind of crap?

I am acutally pretty upset about this new deal :(, civil liberties and all. The fact that annoys me the most is that a third party watchdog site had to leak the details about this plan. Otherwise, us as residents, would never have known about it. It just scares me as to how secretive this all is.

Our nation prides itself on being different from other countries in that we do not perform these sort of over the top antics, but I guess that is no longer true.

Finally, I live in British Columbia, about 2 hours from the border. Two weekends ago, we celebrated Victoria Day, and it was a long weekend. My family decided that we were going to spend the saturday at Kirkland Lake and we set off from our house at 6:15 AM on the dot. We got to the border around 8:30 AM and it took us till 1:30 PM to get over to the other side and thankfully that's without us being "randomly" screened. Coming back from the US on the other hand was a breeze, next to no line up and the agents were very friendly. If they started searching every person, I can only imagine that crossing the border is no longer an acceptable option. Think of all the shops and services that rely on tourists on either side of the border who will be so negatively affected by this momentum.

Mexico still wins.

There is a difference between a proposed act, which they where INVITED TO, and even then, the law can be created but never actually enforced.

You need to understand that when people sign treaties, they are enforced or strict penalties ensue. Take the NAFTA for example, do you think that it's just a baseless agreement and isn't enforced?

You need to realize that everyone who is at that summit is potentially affected by this, even you living in Mexico, because your country might be signing said agreement.

the key word is potentially: it has the potential to be a pain in the ass but I can bet 100 dollars that it isn't going to be enforced in less than... say... 5-7 years.
