But even if you only use 2009, your contacts will still see your real name as long as they are using 2011. Best thing is to just set your "real name" to something you are comfortable with.
I'm not sure about it. Yesterday I was talking with a contact that installed WLM 2011 (received through Windows Update!) but I continued to see her with her usual display name coloured with Plus.
Sometimes, when I use WLM 2011 in my VM or when I sign in on the Web Messenger (that behaves like 2011), when I go back to WLM 2009 I find my first name (not the full one) as display name, but this doesn't happen all the times.
Many times I keep my home PC signed in with WLM 2009 and sign in on the web, or from WLM 2011 on my VM, in these cases I think that my contacts that use 2009 see me with my 2009 display name, as I have myself as a contact and see my display name.
However, this is not very clear to be honest. Any possibility of an official explanation by Microsoft?
