Section 1: Make sure that the computer is virus-free
You may see this error message if your computer has a virus or other infection that has disabled a necessary Norton program service or process.

You should see the two folders Portal and Incoming listed under the Quarantine folder.

If this does not fix the problem, then do one of the following depending on your situation:
If you have changed the default location for the Norton AntiVirus shortcuts in the Windows Start Menu, then go to Technical Information and follow the steps in the section "Restore the Windows Start menu entry for Norton AntiVirus."
If the error happens when opening a Microsoft Office document or worksheet, then go to Technical Information and follow the steps in the section "Disable the Office plug-in."
