Could do yea, but then what would be in the remander of the image? A set colour or transparency or something? As images themselves have to be a rectangle.
You could put in the options what the user would like to select...maybe color or transparency.
Another Idea
Maybe in the options you could have the option to remove tabs. Maybe I dont want to SAVE my screenshot but always send them. Many times I take a screenshopt and accidentaly save it instead of sending it.

edit: (From New Idea) I mean in the conversation window when U click Plus>Plugins>SSS3 then select something...the idea would be to remove selections from there
